Converter quality on Onyx FW option
      #122155 - 28/04/05 06:45 PM
anyone know what this is like? Im a little off being able to afford the lynx converters I wanted as other things must come first, but im still gonna need 16 channels of decent conversion and this looks a cost effective solution. My behringer ADA8000 doesn't quite cut it at the mo.

Or any other reccomendations would be welcomed.

I would say comparable to cards in the MAudio 2496 range. But nowhere near something like Lynx converters.

You need sixteen channels at once?

Yeah. Maybe a motu would be a good stopgap for now? Maybe even a couple of RME units?

Is that an opinion formed with experience?

I'll find out myself in a few days when I get to use one of the onyx desks with firewire for recording a gig.

Morph, come back and post your views m8. I would be very interested in this particular poroduct's real use specs.

No experience with the Onyx. Just looking at the specs. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with something like the 2496. But Lynx was mentioned and that's where your getting into higher end converters. The firewire option on the Onyx looks like a great value.

That was me, I was saving for an Aurora 16 but Im a little off being able to afford it. I need a stopgap decent 16ch AD converter in the meantime and seeing as I have an onxy 1640 I thought the FW might be a good option.

Thanks for the specs G, ill compare them against the other things I had in mind.
