Sponsorship - How does one get it??
      #124889 - 05/05/05 08:50 AM
Good morning all

I am currently working with a management/artist on a session fee, with label interest blah de blah etc etc, and a number of gigs look likely to arrive......

I was speaking to a sax player friend of mine who said that i should seriously consider trying to get some sponsorship from some drum companies.....the"I'll play your stuff if you give it to me for free/cheap" kinda thing....He reckons i might get somewhere.....

I was wondering how one goes about such a task? - Would it be like sending a musician CV off to various companies as one would when applying for a job? - or is there a secret way of getting the sponsorship?

Also - what would i write in my intro letter?

Is there anyone on the forum who has a sponsorship deal? - I understand that peoples wouldn't want to give away any real secrets, but if anyone has some general advice - I'd be grateful

thanks people
wease

...you should try asking this on the forum at Drum Tech or Kerrang.

I am currently endorsed by Zildjian but whilst touring I was endorsed by Tama, Zildjian (cymbals and sticks), Remo, Rims and Pro Mark, all free.

You need to make companies aware of what you are doing (especially if it includes any TV work) and let them have your schedule, although it might be better to wait until such time as you have already started touring. Invite them to gigs and rehearsals. Also make sure that you actually like the gear you endorse as you will have to talk about it and tell everyone how great it is - don't just take it because it's free!

Look at the Commander.....drums for Led Zep !! . . .what chance have we mere mortals got?

Whenever i see posts by Commander, i lay across the keyboard, arms outstretched and chant mantras for 10 minutes.

Sound advice.....I'll give the schedule/cv approach a go

Although I'm nowhere in the same league as the mighty commander...I really appreciate the advice...and will only go for the companies i like anyway!
