logic drum machine control trivia
      #139916 - 08/06/05 06:28 AM
Hi,

I assume this is trivial but I never figured how to solve this by myself:
using logic to sync two drum machines that are in perfect sync looping along (one Jomox Xbase and a Korg ER-1). the jomox is always at the correct position in a measure no matter how I tweak the song position line (spl). The Er-1 however, is always off - actually after stopping, moving the spl and restarting it doesn't notice the change and simply picks up where it stopped - never even at beat 1.
The only time it restarts at beat 1 is when the spl is at 1 which is a pain when looping in the middle of a song...

(How) can this be fixed?

Thanks a lot,

hypo

Hypomorph,
I'm not familiar with either of these machines and you don't say how you are syncing them to Logic. If you're using Midi then the machine will only be able to tell where in the song you are if it can receive positional indicator information (e.g. SPP or MTC) from Logic. I'm not 100% sure but I think this can only be sent from one port at a time in Logic, if that's what you're doing. You could try daisychaining the two machines together on the one port. Perhaps the second machine is not equiped to handel positional information (or it's disabled) check the manual. My memory is a little fuzzy on syncing (it happens when you go over 40), it has been a while. Sorry if you've tried this already.

Alan.

I've got an ER1 too - and it must be the only piece of gear made in the last 20 years which doesn't respond to Song Position Pointers...

many thanks to both of you - it really looks like the ER-1 cannot handle SPP information.

Best,

hypo
