Filtering in Logic new
      #148350 - 28/06/05 10:56 AM
Can anyone recommend any good filter’s that can be run through Logic 7.1? I am a new Logic user but have struggled to get the filter sound I’m after with the Logic filters. I’d be interested to hear people’s views on the filters available with Logic 7.

I’ve mainly used the fuzz-wah in Logic but would like to get a sound more like the one that dj mixers produce. Also as I am new to Logic could anyone tell me if there are any difficulties in getting external software effects to work in conjunction with Logic.

Cheers.

As long as an AU-plugin is fully compatible with the AU-standard it should work without a hitch in Logic 7. When Logic 7 was introduced it took roughly half a year before most developers had this sorted, these days it's not much of an issue.

Try the AutoFilter that comes with Logic. It has great sidechain- and envelopemodulation options built in. Unfortunately it's only lowpass. If you need HiPass or BandPass filtering you can use the Channel EQ and automate it manually. For some far out filtering, try the EVOC20 and the EVOC20 Filterbank.

For third party options I highly recommend OhmForce's QuadFrohmage. If you can't mangle your sound to death with that plugin chances are you never will...

Yeah Autofilter is a very strong plug-in. Experiment with the modulation mix and attack and decay times in the top section, in a combination with switching the filter slopes and fatness slider. The resonance is particularly nice for a digital filter - be aggro with it.

Oh yeah, and if you want good external FX I recommend Reaktor 5 - thousands of user ensembles mean as many delays, reverbs etc etc etc as you could ever want!

And you can also use the channels eq, use the high or low pass with the 'q' turned up - flexible and you can see exactly what you're doing. It's also possible to side chain some of the synths? ES1 etc.

I downloaded an AU version of the Ohmforce Fromage filter recently which is free [ or was ], it's only a single filter but that's fine by me, I've got Nitro, and logic's filters but I love the simplicity and sound of fromage the best. been looking for ages for a filter that does the biz, this is the one.

Not available as an AU though. Besides, FilterScape is the daddy filter!

Betabugs' CrayonFilter is pretty cool too.

Nah.

Filter Freak is the daddy.

Again, not available in Audio Units, though.

Hijacking the thread a bit here but it's nice to see a fellow Frohmager...

My favourite trick right now is let the incoming audio modulate the distortion in a negative way; low volume = distorted sound, loud volume = clean sound. I've gotten some crazy vocal sounds out of it!
