Can you all tell me what set up you all use? Especially with good reference to samples as i'm currently not sure which ones to go for- i've got about 3000 to upgrade my home studio setup so any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are seriously orchestrating, 1Gb will not be enough-you should be aiming for 3Gb as a start.
Here's my suggestion. Opus1 or 1+2 package from VSL. Buy these just for the performance patches. Also buy a refurb 2gig G5 with the early spec (upgradable to 8Gb) or a 1.8 and go for a wide screen tft and Logic Pro.

Well, I use Miroslav and Sonic Implants.
Both beat anything else with exception of the Vienna library which I find way to complicated to work with.

There' a new library on the market released by Motu today:

Symphonic Instrument

Motu Digital Performer is the number one DAW in film/tv.
They have to get it right !

I'm afraid i'm sticking with Logic Pro 7, i love it. Also, does Miroslav have really nice piano and choral samples? I've heard on good authority how great the sounds of the orchestra are but i'm stuck for those two. How much did your Miroslav cost?

I paid a lot of money for the Miroslav library a couple of years ago,
but there was a package announced at Namm containing all sounds (8 Gb)
for under 300 GBP or 500 € .

At the moment I find myself doing more and more with Sonic Implants.
They don't come cheap though ...

I ordered the Motu Symphonic Instrument right now which set me back 290 €.
I can't comment on the sounds, handling, etc. of course, it's brand new,
but the demos are promising.

An other alternative I keep my eyes on is Synful:

You can download a demo app..
