Creating rhythms with audio clipping?

I was wondering how to create audio clipping to compose rhythms (like Alva Noto or Sketch
Show)? I was wondering what the best process was for creating random audio malfunction
sounds such as these, as I find these types of sounds fascinating.

You can use a thing like 'buffer override' from destroy FX - gives good results.

The real Cornelius would know plenty of ways... You've posted in the PC forum, so I'm assuming you're using software. How about
automating a distortion plugin? Perhaps feeding a rhythm into Peak Freak to create some
Midi data, and converting that into on/off messages for either a plugin, or some
outboard? Plenty of ways, but your message is a bit confusing, as you say you
want to create rhythms, and then say that you want randomness...

rythms can be strict tempo or random; random rythms are particularly useful in large group
arrangements; a piece of music can start with a rythm which is per se a limitation or a
rythm can emerge from the sound values as in much contemporary jazz; an example might be
the problem of making digital rythms swing as compared to the basie orchestra who were
able to play on the verge of rythmic collapse thus creating subtle unpredictabilities &
maintaining rythmic interest. G

{Nice for generating loops too}
You just want occasional crunches? You want
real rythmns with sounds that are clipped?
Personally, I'd set up some
rythmns {quicky midi drumloops} in a simpleish synth like "The Devil Inside" from here http://www.uv.es/%7Eruizcan/p_vst.htm {also Ellottronix and much of
the stuff on their beta page} then use, probably, an overdrive, well... here:
This is cool:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/641.html
:} This thing is
evil:
http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/712.html
This is
essential:
http://www.audiomelody.com/index.php?/melodic/downloads/plug_ins/blood_ove
rdrive
Then, knowing me {and so as to maximize ear damage} I'd have to
use these:
http://www.grmtools.org/quicktour/qtclassicrtas/reson.html
http://www.grmtools.org/quicktour/qtclassicrtas/combfilters.html
Maybe this:
http://www.grmtools.org/quicktour/qtclassicrtas/pitchaccum.html
You might check out endorphin, cyanide, tobybear's silverbox { http://www.tobybear.de/p_monsterbag.html } and for maximal violence...
Revalver http://www.alienconnections.com/products.htm is essential
You might want to set up a gate or a limiter so as to have a little better
control...
{I can also recommend vfractal and vlogic distortion tho' I can't
seem to find links to them anywhere.}
For random... you can use Ellottronix
above, try out some really long delays, generate the loops from a fractal program, etc...

If you are getting rhythms out of noise files, Dominion can be useful for
bringing out beats. Kind of a transient tool.
I'm not really a glitch kind
of guy but I find that drum loops sound better with multiband distortion so each sound
gets it's own treatment. I expect broken loops would benefit as well. The one in Cubase
does it for me but there are plenty of others.

a trick i like to use is to stick a loop crackly clipped or otherwise into a crackle
reducing plugin, eg waves crackle and just keep the difference bit ie just what you are
removing. play with the threshold and cut to suit

yes, you can do the same thing with stienbergs declicker; set your thresholds click
on audition & record that instead of the main audio. you can also use the deplopper to
pick up some low frequency sounds at the same time. G

You might check here: http://www.sonicspot.com/samplerestorers.html...and here
in particular... http://www.sonicspot.com/denoise/denoise.html...If you
want to mess with noise. D/Noise will process large audio files very fast, will run
multiple instances, is free and turns out some massively cool stuff. {Can't
forget here or my favorite
dnoiser intune either. Intune takes a bit of practice but you can get it to
turn white noise into symphonies if you spend some time with it.
