Yamaha AW4416 CDRW drive help!! new

Just bought a used AW4416 with version 2 os from a dealers - its fine except the cdrw drive wont recognise any discs. It had been used with an external drive and the internal drive was disconnected. I have reconnected the internal drive - it is set as scsi 3 but it wont do anything. The scsi bus is working as Ive managed to back up a song to a Syjet removable drive. Any theories?

They all do this - it's a fault with the cd-rw drive. For £100 Yamaha UK will replace the cd-rw interface with an id-e one and fit a new drive. Then if it goes wrong again you can get a drive from PC World and bung it in. I'll be getting this done to mine as soon as I can spare it for a few weeks. Give Yamaha UK a bell.

Mine certainly doesn't do that and has been working fine for over 4 years.

What fault?

They certainly don't.

Check the SCSI termination... although, if it's recognising the drive this is unlikely to be the problem.

are you sure it's not an atapi type - you then don't set the id no. - you set it to atapi.

Thanks for the advice - its going back to the dealer as they hadnt checked it properly before sending it.
