Having looked at various audio interfaces for my newly acquired ibook (and thanks again to
all those that asisted with this choice via previous posts), I think I've settled on the M
Audio 1814 as a well tried and stable choice. I've read the posts re. Logic Express
addressing only the 8 analogue inputs and the first 4 ADAT inputs. Can I assume that Logic
Ex can address all 12 outputs okay?
Check before you buy that a driver exists for your OS.
My M-Audio product does
not work properly under 10.4.3 though it does under 10.4.2 (apparently). They are in the
process of writing a new driver. I am not sure how long I will have to wait.
I
was just about to start a thread to help me with a work round when I saw your post.
Yep, I just checked and Logic Express can see all 12 outputs of my Firewire 1814. If you
want to access all the ADAT inputs you can use Jack to repatch things (at the expense of
losing 4 of your analogue inputs).
With regards to the driver issues, I'm too
scared to try anything new at the moment as I'm in the midde of a couple of projects just
now. As a result I'm still running OS10.3.7, Logic Express 7.1.0 and M-Audio firewire
driver 1.2.4 (on a 1GHz G4 iBook).
I realise that this is all pretty old now
but it works very well so I'm happy. I'd be keen to hear about experiences with Tiger /
new drivers as I'll be changing over soon...
