Ode to something oft-forgotten new
      #215626 - 24/11/05 11:24 AM
It just occured to me how different my record collection would probably be if it wasn't for the paintbrush tool in Cubase. I don't really like Cubase and haven't touched it for years, but I'd like to thank that little feature. Fun times.

I may be missing what you’re getting at Paws but I feel the same way about Notator and its way of doing things, and companies like emagic.

It’s designers and developers who invisibly influenced how things are done and gave us the tools we had/have available. These more or less configuring the music tech landscape through the solutions they found and ways of doing things which hadn’t really been done before. Down to the little quirks / details in the programs which have become wdely implimented eg the little tool box still found under the cursor in LP7.

I've still respect for the ST designers who thought to have the MIDI interface on board. If they had not maybe emagic and Lengeling’s associates and the cubase guys would n’t have developed for it in the way they did.

The S950 / S1000 and the casio cz range which were among the first samplers / digital keyboards within the reach of many and gave us tantalizing glimpses of the technologies we would one day have and now take for granted.

It’s good to be aware of these things and i think that’s why I enjoy the features on the history of the industry like the several issue one on Roland and others.Best wishes

alternatively i've missed what you were getting at by a couple of miles

Naw, you got it... I was just specifically talking about the Paintbrush tool cos I heard some track from c97 yesterday and it had the most lovely 16th note stutters:)
