Hello all !!!
Was looking at one of the replys to "Beebman's" post regarding
using G5 audio jack input, Max the Mac said something about "he should get a optical audio
interface and he would be cooking" (words to that effect) and it made me wonder because i
have M audio Firewire 410 which has a optical input and output and my G5 dual 2.0 has the
same.
The quetion is could i plug my 410 straight into my G5 and if so which
settings do i change in OSX 10.3.9 also might need to change setting in my software mixer
for my 410, does it also improve the clarity of the audio i'm listening to?(how much
percent maybe!!!) would thankful if someone could enlighten me.

there's no point , you get no benefit..... the 410 IS your interface.... it's SPDIF is
intended to connect to another external device... as is the optical I/O on the G5
what i meant earlier with regards beebman was some external AD/DA , perhaps from Apogee,
or RME, ( see the rosetta 200 as an example )
this would provide 2 channels in
and out of very high quality audio.... without the need to use an actual interface as
such... simply using the G5's onboard SPDIF.
some people might have things
like that already, and may not have considered using it in that manner,
as a
cheaper version one could use a DAT or CDR or MD recorder as external AD/DA
it
would work... but the quality is variable....
