ZOOM MRS 1266 repair?
      #223005 - 09/12/05 08:25 PM
Hi Guys;

Does anyone have experience of the ZOOM MRS1266; especially repair?
A colleague at work has one; and he suspects the hard drive as the unit is becoming very flakey and often refuses to boot.

I myself have never used one (all my stuff is in Cubase with VST Instruments), so I'm not familiar with it.

My questions are:
Can the hard drive be replaced?
If so what type/capacity?
(As a computer support type I don't mind changing a drive - especially if it's a standard IDE type).
I guess the drive will be FAT32 - rather than NTFS?

If the current drive is toast - how can the 'OS' be replaced?

If the answer to the above is 'No'- must the unit go back to the ZOOM distributor for repair?
Apparently they haven't been much help so far.

Thanks

Dunno for sure, but at the risk of sounding totally stupid, have you tried to reconfigure the drive? In other words, totally erase it? Short of that, I couldn't offer anything other than to keep hammering at the Zoom customer service...hopefully the squeaky wheel will finally get some grease. Good luck.

the hard disk in the 1266 can be replaced, according to zoom, with a standard HD that you can buy in any computer shop. you can download the manuals for zoom products from their website - i think it's www.zoom.co.jp

Thanks guys;

I see on the Zoom site that there is an 'OS' v 1.09.
I guess this can be uploaded to a new HDD via USB.

I'll get back to my mate and see what he wants to do.

Re: ZOOM MRS 1266 repair? reformat you hard drive new [Re: Pest]

my hard drive was playing up so i took it out and attached it to my pc (rather than buying the usb thing) and backed up all my files. after this is wouldn't boot at all. iso i reattached it to my pc and using the recovery tool on the recovery disk 'reformatted' so to speak my hard drive. also, for any othe people who have done this, make sure the connecters are placed back correctly. on pc cables one of the many pins on the cable is plastic to make sure you don't connect it improperly. this isn't so on the zoom; if it isn't booting properly perhaps try turning it around. peace
