Excellent link but can anyone recommend any programs from the list? I don't want to go
down the route of overloading myself with stuff I'm not gonna use...

Very good of people to mention these. One which I've picked up on; mentioned on the forums
previously by Max and others - definitely worth a download is Ohmforces frommage. And the
stratergy works. I'm very tempted by their product line some excellent stuff. So there's
one recommendation Another Nick. Thanks anyway for the site posts. Best wishes.

I don't think Frommage is available as a free download anymore. They have a demo, or you
get it as part of their bundles, but not on it's own. Shame - it's great.

If you are looking for free software for multitracking and the like on a Mac go with
Ardour(http://www.ardour.org)
Also with ardour you get access to the LADSPA
plugins from Linux, while not being great they are pretty well all free(I cant think of
any for pay, though I dont think anything is stopping them from releasing commercial
plugs) and some of them are useful. The packages for them I believe can also be found
from ardour's website, going through the download page.

Haven't tried the Mac versions yet but some of those plugs are
available for PC and I've used them... The Digitalfishphones plugins are excellent. As is
Izotope's Vinyl. Smartelectronix offerings are variable but mostly very good and useful
suff.

It's a good link for me but i'm on OS9!!!
Anyone got any? Ive got my DP plug-in's, and a couple of free VST one's the Macs
previous owner left with me (he went to PC - the traitor!), tho I cant run them as I dont
have a wrapper.
Speaking of VST wrappers, are there any free ones of those
knocking about for OS9?

Decimator is good, so is the betabugs(sp?) chorus - really instant. And actually daHornet

Great link, thanks...
Been using Fish Fillets for a while, top stuff.
Spent a week trying a few new ones off this site- so far I'm loving the Wavebreaker
(insane/experimental distortion effects); the Supatrigga (slices audio and
rearranges/reverses/slows it); just started using Meringue (delay/feedback effects).
They've all inspired me to write some quite different-sounding stuff: can't really ask for
more than that...
Going to check the Chip32 and Decimator next...
Anyone got any tips for interesting/weird analogue-style delay plugins?

Its just a phase shifter controlled with a 360 degree wheel. It'd help me fixing phase

well i know about these plug ins from dont crack, so i was not completely over the moon,
anyhow, having become a recent convert to the MAC, i want really some advice, i have
always used cu base on my pc. i now want to try out some other software, but not buy just
now, does anyone know of any where to get hold of some software much the same as cubase,
or indeed a version of cu base i could use meanwhile, as i am rather lagging and dwelling
on this one, and i fear i will have to purchase cubase again, which terrifies me. Any
advice on a good program, well, i would be seriously grateful!

I think this would be more appropriate on another thread, but you should contact Steinberg
and ask about a cross platform copy of Cubase. Also, Apple has a demo version of Logic for
download. It is here: http://www.apple.com/logicexpress/trial/

There are also
some free OS X VST instruments on the same site - various piano modules and a bass. They
aren't editable and I've only heard the Windows version, but free is free...

Be aware that some of these AUs won't be validated under the latest (10.4.9) version of OS

That list is awesome! I've been compiling a list of some of my favorite freeware effects
and instruments here: Free Stuff It's all stuff that's on the dontcrack list,
but maybe it'll narrow down the process of weeding through it (though that's half the fun
sometimes). For any newbies out there I've also posted a couple blogs about
installing and using freeware plug-ins here: My Blog/Podcast -Cliff

This may sound like a dumb question however how do you get the plug in to show up in Pro
Tools after you have downloaded them?
I download them and they don't show up. I
tried putting the little icon into the Pro tools plug in alias folder but that didn't work
either. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

All the freebies I've had for Pro Tools have had an installer that does the lot. Make sure
the plug is UB if you've got an Intel Mac, as PPC plugins just won't show up. Sorry if you know this, but Pro Tools LE/M-Powered will only accept RTAS plugins, not
AU. You can select to filter to RTAS plugins on Don'tCrack.

you need the right sort of plug in.... the majority are AU "audio units" for Logic ....
for PT you need RTAS plug ins, or you need Fxpansion's VST to RTAS wrapper./
you can;lt just dump them in a folder and expect them to work if they're not RTAS
plugs.

Here's a cool little free compressor from SSL: http://www.solid-state-logic.com/resources/lmc1plugin.htmlNo UB version, though. I've been having fun with these 20+ odd plug-ins, and
they are UB: http://www.michaelnorris.info/soundmagicspectral/On the
ones that have the option, try lowering the FFT to 512 to reduce latency. Some of them
have been a little "crashy" in Live 6. -Cliff

At www.ffnn.nl/pages/projects/audio-units/legacy-versions.php you'll find
3 UB AU's for free. The only catch is that they are no longer supported because there are
updated commercial versions (but at only $10 each, if you like the free ones, consider
buying the new v.2 plug-ins to support the developers). The plug-ins on offer are - Diatonic Shifter v.1.x - Eventide-style pitch-shifting/harmonizer Octave Shifter v.1.x - Real-time pitch-shifting +/- 1 octave Reverse Sampler
v.1.x - Gapless, semi-real time reverse playback, auto crossfades, sample (delay) 0.1 to
10 seconds Then there's the free UB AU distortion plug-in FuzzPluss v.2.2 at www.audiodamage.comCamelCrusher - UB AU distortion/multi-fx at www.camelaudio.comu-he's Triple Cheese - UB AU instrument
at www.u-he.comKR-Phaser

Hi-
I am a pro composer/musician, working for 3 USA networks, so my list of
plug ins is embarissingly deep and way too expensive, but in many ways, the most inspiring
plug in I have ever used in terms of creating new ideas's from static grooves is a free
plug in called Live Cut, from Mcdsp software.....combined Livecut with a drum groove
generator like Stylus RMX, EZDrummer, etc. is just fantastic...the comapny asks for a
donation, and i sent them 30 bucks, thinking i was insulting them, but was told in a reply
that that was the most they had ever received, so a 5 dollar paypal transfer would make
you both happy. its still free if you choose not to, but once you try it, you will want to
help them develop this great tool even more it is basically a low cpu drain AU/VST
plug-in used as an audio track insert (in DP mixer at least) that takes any audio on that
channel and slices it up in real time...it has a ton of controls to modify, randomize and
repeat the slices, as well as a "Squarepusher" contol for the truly adventurest
jungle/D&B/chill/trance madman in you.....it never fails to amaze me what comes out of it,
and you can record it free form as you dial away and then edit the best bits....works on
any audio, and as a sidebenefit, when used with Stylus RMX; it mutes the output of stylus
rmx when you stop or pause DP. hit play and you are back to groovin. I believe you can
search for it in SOS, as they gave it a very nice mini review a few months ago
imho, it's just an Amazing Drum & Bass tool, and it beats the heck out of improvising
ideas over a static 2 bar drum loop. Beta bugs chorus is another nice fx, as is
Crystal synth....i wish they would charge for crystal and put the money into even more
developement, so get it while it is still free. hope this is of some help. good luck

I'm a big fan of autopanners, and today I was looking for an alternative to the free GWS
RanPan (which can be downloaded here: http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/GWSRanPan/ ). I found this neat
package:
http://mda.smartelectronix.com/effects.htm
Works a treat
(Intel compatible).

Agreed, the fish fillet package is excellent. We use the spitfish and blockfish on most

All those looking for a free sampler, designed for live use, i've just come across musolomo which i'm trying out in
Logic, though it can be used with Live also. Very tasty, it has to be said. You can record
in real-time, or drag in audio, midi-assignable controller options, and some good
effects. I'm liking very much.

A free meter that can act almost like a VU-Meter (you can set a warning zone where you
want). Great cause it's more precise when you want to be around -18db or -12dB when
tracking... The free version is only stereo but it's great! http://www.rndigital.org/inspector.html

No, they will not work on Intel Macs, as they are PPC plugins
only, and will never be UB.

affordable DAWs, should work in AU with Ardour 2.4.1 and AU/VST in Reaper 2.4.4. - Daniel

One which I've picked up on; mentioned on the forums previously by Max and others -
definitely worth a download is Ohmforces frommage. And the stratergy works. I'm very
tempted by their product line some excellent stuff. So there's one recommendation Another

BIAS are giving this away at the moment
BIAS
GateEx
Here is the blurb
A new pro-quality
Gate/Expander plug-in with graphic displays, advanced parameter control, and downward
expander — effectively removes signals below an assignable threshold and helps reduce
audio noise.
In dialog recordings, a gate might be used to remove (or
minimize) the presence of background noise or room tone that is audible in the amplitude
dips between the speaker's words or phrases. In music recordings, a gate might be used to
remove or isolate one type of drum from another. By applying GateEx as a downward
expander, you can increase the apparent dynamic range of your audio.
They give you a serial number for the gate and you get to install demos of the other
plugins if you want as well.

If you register with Metric Halo site they send you free vouchers. I just received a free
$100.00 and a $75.00 voucher. I then went on to purchase 'Channel Strip for
Garageband' for $89.00. Or you could put it towards the AU version which is
currently $699.00.... Metric Halo Store

Thought you might like to know that I've ported the CAPS plugins to AudioUnits.
Most of them are a bit boring, and already available in Logic etc (ie compress, eq,
chorus); but I reckon the Amp and Preamp ones sound really good. They will appear in the
plugins menu under the manufacturer "Zen_Platypus". The direct download link
for version 1.0.0 is here and the SourceForge page can be found here. The project is
under GPL and full source is available. Please use this forum or the
SourceForge forums for feedback. I'd be particularly interested to hear from PPC and/or
10.4 users - I believe these plugins should work on both but I haven't been able to test
this. Thanks, Tom

Also from NI Kontact Player Not sure if this is a gratuitous attempt to
sell different format sample libraries or a very generous way to allow us to access older
libraries such as the East West ones before the got that crappy, buggy play thing that
everyone seems to hate. I'm away from my Mac at the moment but if anyone can

Good news, 'tis a way to access all the old
instruments that you discarded when porting to intel! Patience is rewarded.

Got through the whole post amazed not to have seen anything about TOGU.... until the three
posts above! First used the SH101 clone and it took me back to my school days
(and to my ears it has a genuine 'sound' that my other synths don't seem to have) and then
the Juno 60 clone and nearly exploded with pleasure. These are genuine quality
instruments although in my AU to VST wrapper, there are some minor visual annoyances. The
vocoder is brilliant too... in fact, no-one here should be without any of their stuff is

What a find!!!!! These plugs are astonishingly high quality. And the 101 clone
- it brings back memories for me to. SH101 was my first synth as 16: the fundamentals of
synthesis I learnt on that exquisite machine have stood me in great stead over the years.
I can't think of a better synth to learn on. I remember dreaming of having a
whole orchestra of SH101's - and now I can do it: I've just loaded up 16 instances into
logic and am having a ball!!! Back in 1989, I eventually ended up with two, and
used to run them with a TR606 and a Seq. Circuits Pro One. What a meaty set up that
was... At gigs I would program the 101 sequencer on stage between each song..... I was
very proud of that feat! This whole suit is the best set of free plugs I have
come across by a mile. Thanks for the heads-up: you've made me a very happy
bunny and given a much needed injection of inspiration to my workflow... S.

It's been mentioned on these fora before, but SPL are giving away their "Attacker" plug
free, until 15 Nov., as well as the free ranger, a diminished version of the standard
graphic, inductor EQ. The attacker is, as you would imagine, the first/left half of the
Transient Designer. Neither requires an iLok, and are available in all three formats, as
far as I know. I only downloaded the AU, since that's all I use.

As I posted in the main forum: VFX application - anyone using it? I
did a search to see if this has been discussed, but couldn't find anything. I'm going to
post this in the freeware VST sticky, because it seems to allow you to run PC VST FX in

success with it? Here

Still evaluating above post since my new Apogee started annoying me, but can't remember if
anyone's mentioned any of the Stillwell stuff (as used by Mix Rescue) - They're not FREE

about to PAY (the very reasonable cost) for at least 3 since I found out - amazing.

Hi-
I
am a pro composer/musician, working for 3 USA networks, so my list of plug ins is
embarissingly deep and way too expensive, but in many ways, the most inspiring plug in I
have ever used in terms of creating new ideas's from static grooves is a free plug in
called Live Cut, from Mcdsp software.....combined Livecut with a drum groove generator
like Stylus RMX, EZDrummer, etc. is just fantastic...the comapny asks for a donation, and
i sent them 30 bucks, thinking i was insulting them, but was told in a reply that that was
the most they had ever received, so a 5 dollar paypal transfer would make you both happy.
its still free if you choose not to, but once you try it, you will want to help them
develop this great tool even more it is basically a low cpu drain AU/VST plug-in
used as an audio track insert (in DP mixer at least) that takes any audio on that channel
and slices it up in real time...it has a ton of controls to modify, randomize and repeat
the slices, as well as a "Squarepusher" contol for the truly adventurest
jungle/D&B/chill/trance madman in you.....it never fails to amaze me what comes out of
it, and you can record it free form as you dial away and then edit the best bits....works
on any audio, and as a sidebenefit, when used with Stylus RMX; it mutes the output of
stylus rmx when you stop or pause DP. hit play and you are back to groovin. I believe you
can search for it in SOS, as they gave it a very nice mini review a few months ago
imho, it's just an Amazing Drum & Bass tool, and it beats the heck out of improvising
ideas over a static 2 bar drum loop. Beta bugs chorus is another nice fx, as is
Crystal synth....i wish they would charge for crystal and put the money into even more
developement, so get it while it is still free. hope this is of some help. good luck
Is this plug-in still about
anywhere? I'm looking for a glitch / stutter / randomizer sort of plug in for the Mac!

Lots listed on the KVR database. PSP's
freebie Vintage Meter is a handy one for VU and PPM. The Flux Stereo Tool is good for
simple phase metering + goniometer. SSL's X-ISM for inter sample peak errors.

And the 101 clone - it brings back memories for me to. SH101 was my first synth as 16: the
fundamentals of synthesis I learnt on that exquisite machine have stood me in great stead
over the years. I can't think of a better synth to learn on. I remember
dreaming of having a whole orchestra of SH101's - and now I can do it: I've just loaded up
16 instances into logic and am having a ball!!!

Awesome link but can anyone recommend any programs from the list? I don't want to go down
the route of overloading myself with stuff I'm not gonna use to my Mac...
