Excellent link but can anyone recommend any programs from the list? I don't want to go
down the route of overloading myself with stuff I'm not gonna use...

Very good of people to mention these. One which I've picked up on; mentioned on the forums
previously by Max and others - definitely worth a download is Ohmforces frommage. And the
stratergy works. I'm very tempted by their product line some excellent stuff. So there's
one recommendation Another Nick. Thanks anyway for the site posts. Best wishes.

I don't think Frommage is available as a free download anymore. They have a demo, or you
get it as part of their bundles, but not on it's own. Shame - it's great.

If you are looking for free software for multitracking and the like on a Mac go with
Ardour(http://www.ardour.org)
Also with ardour you get access to the LADSPA
plugins from Linux, while not being great they are pretty well all free(I cant think of
any for pay, though I dont think anything is stopping them from releasing commercial
plugs) and some of them are useful. The packages for them I believe can also be found
from ardour's website, going through the download page.

Haven't tried the Mac versions yet but some of those plugs are
available for PC and I've used them... The Digitalfishphones plugins are excellent. As is
Izotope's Vinyl. Smartelectronix offerings are variable but mostly very good and useful
suff.

It's a good link for me but i'm on OS9!!!
Anyone got any? Ive got my DP plug-in's, and a couple of free VST one's the Macs
previous owner left with me (he went to PC - the traitor!), tho I cant run them as I dont
have a wrapper.
Speaking of VST wrappers, are there any free ones of those
knocking about for OS9?

The excellent Automat - AU

and Crystal - now a Universal Binary for IntelMac's . . . VST/AU, and
also OS9 and Windows VST versions.

After spending months perfecting my acoustics and "breaking in" my monitors and diamond
plated cables (gold is for sissies) I have fallen in love with...
Chip 32 and
Decimator.
Seriously - absolutely awesome plugins.

Decimator is good, so is the betabugs(sp?) chorus - really instant. And actually daHornet
is kind of fun for a vi.

Great link, thanks...
Been using Fish Fillets for a while, top stuff.
Spent a week trying a few new ones off this site- so far I'm loving the Wavebreaker
(insane/experimental distortion effects); the Supatrigga (slices audio and
rearranges/reverses/slows it); just started using Meringue (delay/feedback effects).
They've all inspired me to write some quite different-sounding stuff: can't really ask for
more than that...
Going to check the Chip32 and Decimator next...
Anyone got any tips for interesting/weird analogue-style delay plugins?

Supatrigger - awesome! But makes my Live crash sometimes! Anyone know of a free or
cheapish compressor with side chain input?

I'm playing my LP through a Zoom G2 directly into Logic using Ohmforces "Predatohm" and
also the PSP Vintage Warmer plug-in... an awesome heavy "Tube Sound"...

is there mac version of the PhaseBug??? or any plugin that does the same thing for mac.
Its just a phase shifter controlled with a 360 degree wheel. It'd help me fixing phase
problems that aren’t exactly 180 degrees out of phase

well i know about these plug ins from dont crack, so i was not completely over the moon,
anyhow, having become a recent convert to the MAC, i want really some advice, i have
always used cu base on my pc. i now want to try out some other software, but not buy just
now, does anyone know of any where to get hold of some software much the same as cubase,
or indeed a version of cu base i could use meanwhile, as i am rather lagging and dwelling
on this one, and i fear i will have to purchase cubase again, which terrifies me. Any
advice on a good program, well, i would be seriously grateful!

I think this would be more appropriate on another thread, but you should contact Steinberg
and ask about a cross platform copy of Cubase. Also, Apple has a demo version of Logic for
download. It is here: http://www.apple.com/logicexpress/trial/

sounds for a demo - already used 2 on a track now out on an ambient album, within a week
of downloading! Workstation sounds - quality programming. AU, VST, RTAS, MAS.

Haven't tried it yet and I've never used the Waves L1 either...
There are also
some free OS X VST instruments on the same site - various piano modules and a bass. They
aren't editable and I've only heard the Windows version, but free is free...

Be aware that some of these AUs won't be validated under the latest (10.4.9) version of OS
X - da Hornet & SupaPhaser are among them.

That list is awesome! I've been compiling a list of some of my favorite freeware effects
and instruments here: Free Stuff It's all stuff that's on the dontcrack list,
but maybe it'll narrow down the process of weeding through it (though that's half the fun
sometimes). For any newbies out there I've also posted a couple blogs about
installing and using freeware plug-ins here: My Blog/Podcast -Cliff

This may sound like a dumb question however how do you get the plug in to show up in Pro
Tools after you have downloaded them?
I download them and they don't show up. I
tried putting the little icon into the Pro tools plug in alias folder but that didn't work
either. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

All the freebies I've had for Pro Tools have had an installer that does the lot. Make sure
the plug is UB if you've got an Intel Mac, as PPC plugins just won't show up. Sorry if you know this, but Pro Tools LE/M-Powered will only accept RTAS plugins, not
AU. You can select to filter to RTAS plugins on Don'tCrack.

you need the right sort of plug in.... the majority are AU "audio units" for Logic ....
for PT you need RTAS plug ins, or you need Fxpansion's VST to RTAS wrapper./
you can;lt just dump them in a folder and expect them to work if they're not RTAS
plugs.
