USB/Midi latency problem

I recently built a new computer for Cubase SX, and in doing so, I ended up unplugging my
M-audio Keystation USB MIDI controller, and set it aside for a while.
Well,
here it is about 2 months later, and I needed to add a midi part to a song, so I
re-installed the keyboard, but now find that it is unplayble due to this *huge* MIDI
latency. I was trying to use Sampletank 2 as the VSTi, and I realize now that I should
have tried it with another VSTi to see if was a Sampletank issue, but...
I
never had problems like this before, although the new computer is running WinXP rather
than Win2K...
Any suggestions here? Very frustrating.
Thanks!

I had a similar problem with Logic (since cured by a new computer). My workaround was to
play in midi parts using a synth rather than Logic's software sampler, EXS24, with an
"approximate" patch.
After recording the midi track, I would then dump the
synth and use the midi track to trigger the samples I wanted in the first place.

Thanks Steve...so your problem was cured by a new computer? Dang! My system used to work
perfectly, but now that I have built a new computer, I am getting the latency!
It is pretty much impossible to play as is, and since it is just a midi controller, I
cannot play it as a regular keyboard.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
Please??? I'm dying here!

Well, I figured out my problem, and I am bit embarressed!
I started thinking
about Cubase's full plug-in delay compensation feature, and the fact that I was using SIR
reverb for the first time. I remembered someone saying that SIR has a very long latency,
and it got me to thinking...
I went ahead and tried a whole new empty project,
and the controller worked fine with no (noticable) latency. So I went back to the large
project that I first noticed the problem on, and as soon as I disabled SIR, I was back in
business! Whew! I was pretty worried there for a minute!
Thanks everyone!

No need to be embarrassed - at some time in the future someone else will stumble on this
thread, blow off its coating of electronic dust, and release this is exactly the cause of
their problem. Then you'll be seen as a saint! Martin
