Brother has a imac G3 with not a lot os 9 400hz and 512 ram, will it have any chance of running logic pro or any version of logic pro? even express?

I have checked the spec on site, it not look good, but he can upgrade the memory and max it out?

I'd forget about running it on that unless you know of somebody selling Logic Platinium 6. Consider Digital Performer for Os9 which MOTU still sell I believe or Opcode Vision which is availble for free download.

hi,

Your( your brother's ) iMac will run upto 10.3.9
And it will run Logic Express upto 7.1
However, it should be said that it will cough and splutter a bit unless you become a frequent user of the freeze control !!

Versions lower than 6 do not have the freeze funtion so I would not use them, if you can help it.

4.8 runs a treat in OS9 !

Good luck

i think i have the same model of mac, and it's been happy to run 4.8 under os 9 (9,1 or 9.2) and 6 under 10.2. I've not upgraded to 7 yet because I'm convinced that it won't run.

4.8 and 6 run fine as long as you're easy on the plug-ins. I'm going to keep this mac when I get a new one, and keep it for running OS 9 plug-ins through micrologic. The older software runs better on the older hardware, obviously, and although it will run quite modern AUs like the arturiua stuff, it really struggles with polyphony. My older VSTs are much happier. Also it's better with sampling than synthesis, obviously,

At the moment, I'm using one of the lesser versions of 6 (i think silver or gold), though I'm authorised for pro because I think they are a bit simpler, and I try to limit myself to about 8-10 audio tracks and a few instances of EXS. This set up is pretty stable, even with a couple of inserted effects like dynamics, and reverb on a bus send.

I think the same is probably true of express. 7 probably won't run but 6 probably will. You'll need to get it off eBay though.

hope it helps.

jon

I'd endorse DP3 as well - but then I'm biased.

Sarge, I had no idea Studio Vision WAS still available! The reason I say this because the name "Opcode" now doesnt produce the old site where you could get OMS etc. It seems the name's been taken by some other company. At least that's the way ti was last time I looked.

I used DP3 on an iMac of very similar spec. G3 400mhz. I think it had 512mb of ram.. It ran very well. But this was OS 9.
Although these iMacs will run OS X, right up to 10.4, I would not bother, as these Macs will be too slow for OS X unless its just used for web browsing and email etc.. Stick with OS 9 on a Mac of that spec..

Les it's on http://www.opcodeusers.com Maintained by loyal Vision users in cyberspace as Gibson have abandoned it. Haven't used it so don't know what it's like, Coldcut use to be users?

I think that is the blokes best chance to get anything on his Imac because it's FREE and will work in Os9.

Logic Pro or Logic express on a mac mini must be quite reasonable if he can stretch to it. But hell why throw away gear into a landfill when it could be used.

I still use Opcode's Studio Vision DSP for sequencing. It gives me all I need as a MIDI sequencer with the possibility of incorporating sound files within the sequence.
I have this as the sequencing front end to a ProTools LE with DIGI001.
This is running on a G3 B&W 350mhz with 1G RAM.
It doesn't crash, reasonably quick with a decent sound quality.

Doesn't LE 7 require a G4? Will the installer run on G3? Or use Pacifist?
