one-hit wonder new
      #301552 - 23/05/06 01:02 PM
I have written a track with a certain novelty element to it and everyone is telling me that it's a hit. usual story. Where's the bloody money???????????????

Seriously, how do I and who do I approach with a single song that I'm sure even the deafest of A&R blokes will hear as a potential hit.

What are my options? It can pretty much be released as it is. It needs a bit of mastering that's all. I'm sure someone somewhere would go for it. Any suggestions.

Thanks

Single song (hit?) deal? It's been asked before, it's possible though, apparently moreso in dance genres.

Novelty? That's novel!

I also would like a one song (or tune) deal.

One will just have to get going and do the legwork, knock on doors, pick up the phone so to speak! You and me both!

There is no one size fits all answer... As you probably already know. Talent and hard graft, and a dollop of luck!

Think away from the usual route maybe. I haven't heard the song, but is there a clear link to some product? If so you could try approaching a company for sponsorship?

eg if the song is loosely linked to driving approach a car manufatuer or motoring magazine, if the song has some link to drinking approach a brewer and so on? Who might pick up on your tune?

Would it appeal to the Chris Moyles 'lads' type people?

As the previous poster said, sometimes you're in the game of hoping for a lucky break (eg crazy frog, hamster dance, etc) but by approaching as many people you think might pick up on it you make the chance of the lucky break happening.

Try local radio, century FM or whoever, if there's a catchy novelty there they might be interested, go and see them.
