Hi,

There are no compatability issues that I know of with any AMD CPU. If prooblems arise it will be the interatcion between the device, the firwire chip on the mobo or Firewire card and the PCI bus.

If that's the Biostar M7VIG 400 it does not seem to have a Firewire port on the mobo, so you need to ask if the firewire card you choose is compatible.

There is no excuse at all for any firewire card to have compatabality issues with the Fireface - there is an atricle abuot this on RME's site - and I'd be surprised if there were an issue.

The other potential source of problems is our old friend, contention on the PCI bus. This is getting more and more rare; and if the Firewire card is the only thing connected to the PCI bus it does not have much to contend with.

Hi Jim

I have also found your post on the RME newsgroup. If you go back about a week on that newsgroup you should find a post called 'Best AMD Chipset for FF800?'

In that post is the following information

Quote:

>FF800 user manual (page 22) states: "Some motherboards with insufficient
>PCI bandwidth (especially VIA based) suffer from crackling at settings
>below 512.

This statement is not valid in reference to the Asus A8V @ K8T800
chipset. The PCI bandwidth per se is fully OK on this mainboard. Some
elder VIA chipsets had PCI bandwidth problems but it is not an issue
with current breeds.

I would really tread carefully in this area as it is all a bit hit and miss. The obvious best thing to do would be to 'try before you buy'.

I have had problems with the k8t800 on a MSI board but i do believe Asus boards are of a better quality as the Asus A8V is highly regarded. Also the nforce3 chipset was far superior to the nforce4 when i came to audio DSP.
