Its a different beast really. It sounds great from the moment you load a patch thanks to the space it was recorded in and preservation of its stage location, some like this others don't.
It works well for me when doing big cinematic action music, but not so good on your Philip Glass kind of vibe. I have several libraries and tend to mix and match between them depending on the brief.
IMHO its worth having, and the upgrade path is good too if you are impressed!

I trust you've been keeping up to date with the VSL site Iain and checked out the new Vienna Instruments? Life is much easier now, though there are still a mind-bogging amount of patches and articulations to get your head around.

I've just used the Solo Strings VI in anger for the first time today and it is so much quicker to work with as much of the work (repetitions, up/down bows, Legato etc.) is now built into the patches and creating complex combinations of keyswitched, velocity-switched or even speed-switched patches is now child's play.

Still expensive though and not necessarily cost-effective if you're just after plug 'n' play sounds.
