Zoom MRS 802 - fit a cd writer...

I have a Zoom MRS 802 without the cd writer. The official zoom writer seems expensive at
£100, especially as it seems to be a standard PC writer.
I have tried
installing a spare PC writer that I had lying around, but it only burns 30 seconds of
audio before the Zoom display says BURN ERROR. Therefore, I assume that a PC writer
will not work with MRS802.
Anybody know if there is a cheaper alternative to
the official Zoom cd writer?

You can fit standard drives but they probably should have the same specs as the official
writer which is a rebadged liteon model. This is quite an old drive these days so modern
cd writers are less likely to work.
