Jaz Drives?
      #352508 - 12/09/06 01:00 PM
After loosing 2 60gig IBM Deathstar drives this week, I have been trying to recover some of the Logic Audio from the drives without luck, but, luckily, I also have some of the files backed up on Iomega Jaz 1 and 2 gig removeable drives ( all from 5/6 years back )
I have downloaded any of the latest Iomega drivers I can find for OS X for these drives, but so far, my G4 Mirrordoor using OS X 10.4.7 refuses to allow these removables to mount, the removeable cartridge tries, the ejects !!
They are of course being fed into the G4 via an Adaptec 2930 SCSI 11 PCI card that I have also downloaded the most recent ) OS X drivers for .
Can anybody give me any clues as to where I am going wrong here, or, is the info on these drives lost forever too ( without mega costly DATA retrievel companies )

The last machine I used with a jaz drive was a beige g3 tower at like 233 MHz running OS 8!

I know it's not a very useful reply but may head you in the right direction.

What flavour of SCSI is it? you might be able to find an old MAC for $50 that can work with it.

You may want to ring around some well established Printing and Graphic design companies to see if they can mount it for you and burn it to DVD. A buddy who I used to work with in printing said he got a job on a Jaz disk just the other day. weird huh.

Good luck!

Yup, still got my beige G3 and scsi jaz, tho' neither have been booted for a few months now- I think I may have got it to OS 9, but i can't remember- might be 8.6.

If you get absolutely stuck, send them over the water and I'll see if the old lady can at least find the audio, though it's running Logic 4 (or something), so song data won't load. I might then be able to stream them out to the G5 and send them back on DVD. Busy right now so won't happen for a month or so...

The G4 Mirror-Door is a dual boot machine, if I remember right? Have you tried booting into OS9 to see if that makes a difference?

also Iomega used to do a SCSI to FW adapter for the Jaz and Zip drives.
