For a start you could read the SOS guide to mixing in the latest issue!

Why dont buy the mastering one?You make it sound like its not really a mastering book, but really something like a satanic mind bending, brain washing book that makes you you lose your mind and want to marry a donkey or something.I've got the mastering one and I think its pretty cool. Here you go,here's the link to the sound on sound 'compression' pages.Just save them to your hard drive then you can reda them when you like.

Sound On Sound Compreesion Techiques Pages

Here you go just found another,
Sound on Sound Compression Questions & Anwers

Here's some about using eq,
Using EQ

Here's some info about compression and limiting,
Compression And Limiting

And lastly gating,
Using Noise Gates

That should keep you busy for a while.
