System padlock unlocking itself
      #414692 - 31/01/07 08:12 PM
Hi all,
in the system preferences (OSX 10.4.8) on the network page, bottom left is the little padlock to click to stop people without admin rights making changes, well I click it on to lock and then I'll check it later on in the day and the little bugger is open again?!?!

Now I've done nothing myself to open it, not installed any new software that requires me to type in my password, I've even changed my login and admin password but this unlocking keeps happening. Hmmm, very confused, anyone else had this happen?

Hi , you are not alone! .
just confirmed it by selecting 10.4.8 as 'locked' and hit the the restart button and hey presto it was open again. Maybe you have to have another Bootable drive for this to have any permanent effect. ( other than the network option).mmmm, curious

Hi,

Not sure if this is the answer, but try System Preferences / Security

where there's a checkbox entitled "Require password to unlock each secure system preference".

Does turning this checkbox on help ?

Well done Chris,
to be honest I don't if it was just coincidence but, this time I repeated the experiment and went with your suggestion and it " worked" ( sad thing is I didn't even need the system start-up to be locked. but that's forums for you ).

your login password will unlock every time you log in, unless you change the settings in keychain access. read the help for keychain access. there are lots of settings and changes that you can make. regads ruis.
