Excellent. I'll add a link from the page you just posted up in the MRT forum. There are some good explanations on room acoustics, along with some nice online acoustic
calculation programs, and also some of the whys and wherefors on speaker placement (the
latter of which comes up a lot around here) in this site: http://www.mhsoft.nl/RoomAcoustic.aspA bunch of
calculators for acoustics, speaker design, digital recording time, etc. here: http://www.mhsoft.nl/spk_calc.asp

Thanks guys, some good links there and the making of a good reference list. I've made this
a sticky topic so that it doesn't get lost when things get busy.

Some of the references on that
web page are out of date, although the technical content appears to be correct.

Yes. Excellent software. I should have put in my post, though, that all the links are for
either freeware or shareware.
I should also add that while Ethan's 'Modecalc'
is small and quick and does not does not require Excel as many of the other room
calculators do, that it does not do tangential or axial modes.

I'm sorry to jump in. The Calculation Tools and files which were stored at: http://www.acoustics-noise.com/are not accessible anymore. This site is recently hacked 5 times in 6 weeks. The owner can't access his
own site anymore (for now). They are now stored on another server at: http://forum.studiotips.com/viewtopic.php?t=1414One has to be
logged in there to download them. Sorry for this inconvenience.

i just downloaded this and its GREAT its a real-time spectrum analyser for
Pocket PC. so if you have a PDA you can turn it into an RTA. demo version
works for 60 seconds at a time (you can run it again after 60 seconds are up) and full
version is £20. http://www.4pockets.com/software_info.php?par=PocketRTA&pro=&pid=44

If you need reliable sound insulation and absorption coefficient data, you can download
the BB93 database, published by the government , the acoustic standard for schools. http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/docbank/index.cfm?id=5794and
a calculator for RTs and sound insulation from BRE using this data (Building Research
Establishment ) from here; again funded by the government (dfes) http://www.projects.bre.co.uk/envdiv/school_acoustics/should hopefully be able to trust the government =)

Macintosh Room Analysis and other Software

Looks like someone needs to stand up for Macintoshs here.... FuzzMeasure Pro is
one of the few Mac Room (and other) Analysis programs. Typical Mac style, it is very easy
to use. However it is extremely competent and stable. Very reasonable pricing also. http://supermegaultragroovy.com/products/FuzzMeasure/SignalSuite is another very useful Mac offering. As well as every imaginable type of
noise and signal, it can generate sines and sine sweeps without the frequency jumps and
glitches that DAW plug-ins often have. Useful to zero right into those room modes. http://www.faberacoustical.com/products/signalsuite/LabMeter, a realtime frequency meter, also instrument tuners and lots more at http://www.rustykat.com/Best Regards, DanDan

I've been looking for calculators for diffusers, QRDude seem's (from forum comments) to be
quite good but PC only. http://www.subwoofer-builder.com/qrdude.htmAnyone
know of any that'll work on a Mac? I'd really like to know how far away a
diffuser needs to be from the listener (I assume this changes with depth of the
diffuser?).
