omni studio and mixing desk.
      #44186 - 02/11/04 11:48 AM
sorry in advance if this is a silly question.
i have invested in a omni studio, upgrading from an audiophile, which i ran in conjuction with a studiomaster 10 channel mixing desk.
i used the aux sends from the desk to the inputs of my card, and the outs of my card to the stereo 7/8 ins of my desk.
this was fine allowing me to record ,but also practise with a friend using the desk to plug ,vocal, guitar, bass etc into, and monitor through pa speakers (simple a/b switch) arrangement, without opening cubase sx.
when monitoring with cubase i again switched the a/b to my other monitors bm5's and this worked pretty well.

but as the omni studio is, i guess a mixing desk in itself
now when i jam with my friend ,if i for example connect an xlr into the omni and a standard mike into the desk,i have to open cubase sx record enable a track ,click the monitor button ,before i hear anything back through the speakers.
i suppose this is no big deal really ,just seems a little strange.
as i am really baffled at the moment, due to the ammount of different configurations that the omni will allow ,should i just abort using my mixing desk altogether ,and just connect the omni direct outs to my power amp and speakers.
when i do want to jam ,just re-arrange the cabling?
