Sampler library formats - where to get the storage format information

Igor's post about EMU-Akai sampler library conversion has got me thinking once more about
an idea I'd been thinking about when I had some spare time earlier in the year.
I'm not a bad programmer so I wouldn't mind having a stab at writing a conversion
utility myself; in my case I'm interested in the Roland S series to and from Kontakt.
I put together perl scripts at work all the time to convert between file formats,
and even though the sampler library formats might be in binary and be a bit obscure, I
reckon it shouldn't be too tough...
Am I overly simplifying things here?
Anyway, anyone know where I could get hold of any format descriptions for the
Roland S-760 (or any of the S series) or Kontakt?

You'll probably have to speak to Roland / EMU directly. This info is usually only released
under a NDA. I spoke some time ago to the guy who wrote 'Transferstation' (an old Mac SCSI
-> sampler utility). I'd manged to trash an MD disk with my entire sample collectrion on
it, & was trying to find if there was any way I could extract the sample data. He told me
he couldn't give give the foramt info as he was under a NDA.

Hey Steveman,
Thanks for the info. I was hoping that getting hold of the
format would not involve having to get the companies involved - though logic tells me that
this would always be the case. I doubt they would hand out NDAs to just anyone and I
wouldn't even bother trying ... bummer.
Thanks anyway..
