SX3!

it's here! Quote:
Top-10 new features of Cubase SX3
Audio
Warp: Realtime Time Stretching and Pitch Shifting offer extensive new audio editing and
processing capabilities, including ACID® File support: loops automatically adopt a
project’s tempo; audio files can follow tempo changes in realtime.
Intuitive Play Order Track for pattern-based arranging adds a new level of creative
music editing. Divide your song into sections, and then re-arrange it on the fly. Compare
alternative versions of your song and then convert them back into a linear form for
mixdown and mastering.
New Inplace Editor supports ultra-fast direct MIDI
event editing from within the project page. Edit MIDI events in context with audio or
video.
New MIDI Device Maps / Panels support direct access to external
MIDI hardware with user-definable graphic editing panels. Import VST Mixer Maps or create
your own editing panels, even for the Track Inspector or the mixer’s channel
strip.
User-definable Workspaces (window layouts) help organizing your
desktop. Create and save a separate workspace for each step of the production process.
Switch Workspaces on the fly, as if working on multiple computers or monitors.
Studio Connections “Total Recall” support (optional integration of
Yamaha’s Studio Manager 2). The first step into a new dimension of software/hardware
integration. This modular editing system builds a powerful bridge between the virtual and
physical studio. Opening a project can recall an entire studio setup within seconds.
External FX Plugins allow for direct integration of external hardware
effects processors into the VST audio mixer. Use your favorite outboard gear just like
plugins – including automatic delay compensation.
Extended Freeze
function for virtual instruments and audio tracks with added flexibility and improved
performance. Freeze virtual instruments with or without insert effects. Then automatically
unload the instrument to free up RAM. Freeze audio tracks with insert effects to free up
even more CPU performance.
New part-based Volume Envelopes for direct
control of dynamics. Fix level problems on the fly without wasting automation tracks. Then
move events with their volume envelopes.
User-definable Color Coding for
tracks and VST mixer channels provides more clarity and better orientation –
especially in complex projects.

there's a link to system requirements at the topright of the
steinberg-page.
about the upgrade: the return of the mixermap is what i like
most... they always seem to throw nuggets like this in their upgrades... you're just
accustomed to not having it and then it gets available again and you just MUST have it.

Deep joy, SX3 and Sonar 4 out in quick succession. This is getting silly, I run both and
it's getting prohibitively expensive to stay on track. I have already lagged behind on my
Wavelab. Might have to not upgrade or ditch one. Glen

User manual available online, too: http://www.steinberg.net/displaydoc_sb.asp?Product_id=2442&Langue_ID=2&doc
type=236&templ=10&division_id=&loc=doc236NOTHING about re-arranging plugin
order. Which means they haven't fixed this really annoying feature that people have been
complaining about since Cubase VST 3.6 FFS, and have been particularly vocal about since
SX1/N2. Nothing about any other bug fixes either.

What a joke. Another £100 for features most of us don't need. Colour coding channels is a
key feature of the update is it? Clutching at straws (and our wallets).

> Glad I didn't upgrade to sx 2 then Me too This really does look great, it's just about every feature I wanted. The biggies for
me: Editing of midi directly from the main arrange page (yes, this'll make
things MUCH faster!!) Support for external plugins. This will make working
much easier for me, and all with full delay compensation. Class Dynamics
events back, but in a superior form --- I just really hope this release doesn't end up being bug ridden. I wish
Nuendo had been updated at the same time, then I'd probably just have updated that. Anyway, I'm in.

But is there NATIVE support for Tascam's FW1884 control surface!?!?!?
Does
anyone have the technical support phone number. I'm not a current Cubase user but I'm damn
interested in it! The ability to use external compressors, etc. is REALLY appealing!
Cheers.

What? External hardware with delay compensation - don't think that's possible, not
automatically anyway. Part of the process is an enquiry the host sends to the plug-in to
determine processing time, this is not a test tone or anything, it's code. So unless they
are going to bounce a test tone in and check the response, it must be impossible (and how
would they know if there was a pre-delay, or the box is a delay box).
They
must ask you how long the loop is - which is no different to doing it yourself
anyway!!
I would really love to hear how this works.

I presume using a ping IS how it works. Even if you do have to enter the
values yourself (not PC I/O latency of course, the program already knows that), it's still
a viable system for integrating external gear, compared to the current system where that
isn't easily achieved.
At the moment I have to manually delay tracks when using
outboard which is a complete PITA. This new system (if properly done) will be a HUGE
improvement for me, similar to when full system-wide delay comp was first introduced.

I gotta say I love the look of all these new

for money.

I cannot see it working a
ping system - if you are sending into a delay line it will misinterpret the delay as being
a processing delay. It's gonna have to be manual in the first instance and then auto once
you have defined your delays.
I'd like to see the technicals is all.

You could just turn up the dry signal on the delay. SX will probably just take the 1st
ping back as the latency. ONce its set you could change to 100%wet if you need to.

Yeah, Steinberg is saying that they will only "support" installations under WinXP.
According to one of the moderators, the upgrade will install under Win 2000 just fine,
Steiny will only support XP installations. He went on further to say that it was not
tested at all under W2K, only under XP.

Anyone seen any crossgrade prices yet? It looks more useful to me now than the latest

Intuitive Play Order Track for pattern-based arranging is just a great new feature that
should have been part of sequencing years ago already. I've been using Opcode's Vision for
years and this was a standard way of working in that piece of software which I believe is
very intuitive and effective for songwriting. Good move! Never understood why this was not
a standard feature... Regards,

Hey Koediman, nice one for that espace link, very cool.
Are the
mixer maps the things that used to be in VST3.5 or so where you could draw control panels
with sliders and buttons and knobs etc? If so, I totally, totally want this. I wonder if
one could create one which responds to say CC 21 and sends CC85? Would make using a
multi-knob MIDI controller a whole lot easier.
It's looking like a must-have
anyway with the ACID import and the in-place MIDI editing etc. Oh well, another £100. Ho
hum.
