Logic and Logic Express Crossgrades - HELP!!!!!!!

After spending too many hours on the phone to Apple and too many hours waiting for return
calls I appeal to the great SOS readership for help!! I have done what many
others have done - waited until I bought an Intel powered Mac before trying to get the
crossgrade from 7.1 to 7.2 - except in my case I have bought 20 iMacs and 2 Mac Pros for
my school!!! Apple seem only concerned in establishing that it was someone's
fault that I did not know that the Crossgrade 'ran out' in July - I keep trying to explain
that I DON'T CARE whose fault it is - I just want to have the computers running properly
when the kids get back to school in three weeks time. So instead of planning lots of
exciting new lessons on the Macs I spend my time trying to persuade an increasing circle
of friends in Ireland that I need help fast! Anybody got any ideas? Apple
haven't! They suggested that I repurchase the software - that I should have bought fewer
computers so that I could have afforded to rebuy the software at 7.2 level - those are
among their more sensible ideas! Thanks Apple! Sticky117 - frustrated

You'd have to think so - but as I'm dealing with Apple 'Education' you'd want to believe
they'd be a little less cynical?? Yes??? Nah!

It looks like Logic express is the way to go if you can't afford to pay over 1000 US for
Logic Pro 7.2 . Funny isn't it?
It seems that Steve is taking lessons from
Bill to learn how to make more and more and more money without spending a dime any
more..
And it seems that Bill is a very good teacher and Steve, a very good
student!
Ok, now that soon Apple will be equal or greater than Microsoft,
it's time for Linux develloppers to re-invent the wheel again until
Linux=Apple=Microsoft!
The more you make money, the more you need money to
make money.
(I just hope I'm wrong all the way...but...)

Disappointing isn't it?
And all I want to do is teach the next Mac generation!
Unfortunately I'll have all my classes on standby waiting until Apple deign to
assist me! They'll wonder why I'm not using PCs like the rest of the school!

One aspect of being a Macoid is to recognise that Steve Jobs runs around with a big gun,
which, every now and then, he likes to point at his own feet. Thankfully, there is a
strong, global Mac community, which can make up for much of it.

If you want to suggest
changes or improvements to Logic, then here's your chance! The Apple development team are
inviting SOS readers to send in their suggestions of what they'd most like added or
changed in Logic. Email your top five suggestions (in order of preference) to logicnotes@soundonsound.com, and we'll
forward your lists on to the Logic team. We'll be asking them for feedback on which
changes users deem most important and how these might be addressed.
has some
connections with apple, maybe they can do something about it ?

Hi
Exactly the same Withdrawal of Crossgrade Offer happened in mid-march this year
with Final Cut Studio. The new version wasn't announced until NAB in early April, leaving
people high-and-dry for a few weeks.
Maybe Apple thought (or currently think in the case of Logic) that that was a good
marketing ploy - to get the web-chattering classes going nicely to publicise the upgrade,
when it arrives.
When is the next Music-Fair announcement opportunity?
Is there anything else in the calendar, before IBC in Amsterdam on 6th September, where
all the NAB-announced broadcasting goodies get shown up close?
www.apple.com/uk/hotnews/
"Apple to Attend IBC 2007
IBC is Europe’s key annual trade show for media,
video and broadcasting professionals. This year’s show takes place at the RAI in
Amsterdam from September 7th to 11th, and Apple will have a major presence at the event.
Visit us in Hall 7, Stand 620, and get hands-on with Apple’s award-winning solutions for
film and video post production, including Final Cut Studio 2, the industry’s leading
video production suite."
Although that's primarily a video show, its a
far more likely launch venue than yesterday's iMac/iLife gig.
And its a European
event, which may give focus to the eMagic connection....

I have heard that the crossgrades are not dongle specific.
Not condoning
criminality of course.

Well I just got back from the USA - whilst there I tried to get a crossgrade from Apple
Stores in San Fran and Santa Monica - they 'don't have them' either! Very sympathetic
staff but no go.
Kids come back to school on Monday - 15 Brand new iMacs
running Logic Express and 2 brand new Mac Pros running Logic Pro - except that they're not
working properly because I have 7.1 and I need 7.2 but Apple Support assure me that the
Crossgrade is 'no longer available' - so I have about £15,000 of brand new Apples in my
classroom - why????
How frustrating is that???

Hi Just a thought... Apple has several levels of telephone access:- Sales Tech Support, and Pro Apps Tech Support.
Are you sure you
haven't got through to the latter?

Some of the
other logic forums have said that pestering tech support at apple and not pestering the
stores is the way to get this resolved as apple have offered upgrades that way. Maybe
worth a try. All the very best. Vinny.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I've tried EVERYTHING! I've been woring on this for the
past 5 weeks - kids back in school on Monday.
I'm currently 3 management grades
up the scale at Apple - they all want to apportion blame - me - my IT manager - the
reseller - but noboday wants to help!!
Does anyone have a crosssgrade for Logic
Pro and/or Express that they would be prepared to lend or sell? I have all the dongles -
I've paid for 'em but I can't use 'em!!
GRRRRRRR!!!!!!!

Many thanks to SOS readers who have chipped in with suggestions, sympathy and more
positive actions.
It looks as though my problem may be resolved with NO help
from Apple - I am still awaiting a return phone call from August 7!!!
I am
still very angry at being treated so badly by a company I have supported since the early
80's but it seems that customer loyalty seems to be totally undervalued by the Apple
folk.
