I have a hi fi amp (phillips) 50 wats rms per
channel. 6 ohms. It matches the tannoy reveal specs nicely, which im getting soon. What i
want to know is..how badly will it colour my sound?
If amps colour sound why
doesnt everyone use active speakers?

I'm not familiar with your particular amp,
but 'HiFi' (and 'pseudo HiFi') gear is generally (but not always) biased towards sounding
'good' rather than accurate.

Active speakers use amps too (it's
just that they're built in) and like anything else, some of these amps are better (in our
case, more accurate) than others.
There's much more to an amplifier than how much power it throws out. Things like the slew
rate (how quickly it responds (I think)) and damping factor (how well it keeps control of
the drivers (I think)) and the power supply headroom can make a huge difference to how the
amplifier sounds and how accurately it reproduces sound.
Ignoring the esoteric
high end hi-fi amps, there's a good reason why a good quality studio amps are expensive.
