60's Drum Sound new
      #518185 - 13/09/07 12:10 PM
Hi all,

My first post here!

I am trying to get back in to recording at home after a number of years away from it (the usual story of family commitments!) and was wondering if anyone can give me any help / advice.

I am setting up a small home studio centered around one of my Apple Macs. One thing that always disappoints me is the sound of drums when using keyboards and / or computers. While these are fantastic for certain genres of music I would like to know if there is anywhere that I can get a hold of some construction kits based on drum sounds of the 60's - especially mid-60's Beatles / Kinks etc sound.

I appreciate that I'll never get results anywhere near that of a real drummer but would just like to hear something other than the standard GM / 'Rock' drum samples.

All the best.

well, the first things you will need are a flux capacitor and 1.21 gigawatts

failing that, I think BFD from fxpansion would be a good start point for actual sounds, BFD can feed multiple outputs in logic for example, and you can then mix them as you would a normal kit...

For a 60's sound personally, I would probably keep it as a stereo instrument and compress the output with an 1176 style compressor then reverb it into a room type space using space designer, or altiverb, and tweak the kit and room to taste
I think that should enable you to get something better than GM keyboard drums...

hope that helps,
John

If you are really keen to get close to the Beatles drum sounds then check out the FabFour VI by EastWest.

Thanks folks. Really appreciate your replies although I don't think the Delorean would fit in the room!

The Fab Four from East West looks interesting.

Cheers.
