Reason 4 concerns.

Hi. I'm thinking of upgrading to reason 4, but I don't want to loose all of my Reason Song
Files, or patches for the synth's etc. Does R4 install a whole new program, or just an
upgrade ? And are the original R3 synth patches left intact ?

Hey Tony, I just bought my upgrade yesterday. You get a mail straight away from
the Props telling you exactly what to do about the concerns you just cited... Quote:
If you already have an
earlier version of Reason installed on your machine, you need to make sure this
version is uninstalled before you install Reason Version 4. Proceed as follows:
1. If you have ReFills (other than the Factory Sound Bank and Orkester) or other custom files in your Reason application folder, move them to another location.
2. Uninstall the previous version of Reason. Use the Uninstall
feature (Add or remove programs, in the Control Panel).
3. Install Reason
Version 4.
4. If you moved files from your Reason application folder in step 1
above, move them back again (or add their current folder as a Location in the browser).
Hope that
helps Tony
G'luck

why not copy them to a safe location ?
copy not move thus you will see whether
Reason 4 had any impact upon your old patches...though i suspect it won't

I'll be installing my Reason 4 on my MacBook. I currently have Reason 2.
I'm
relatively new to OSX and macs in general. Presumably, I need to uninstal Reason 2 from my
mac?
And to do this, presumably all i need to do is drag the Reason 2 folder
into the wastepaper basket?

Tootsweet, thanks, I've made a folder for all my Reason patches, everything, and stored it
in My Documents. I hope R4 has some useful things other than the Thor, R3 is already
great, and pretty bottomless, I don't want it to become too complicated.

No worries Tony. I reckon it'll be great. I love the fact that it has a variable tempo on
it now which is automatable. That, and the re-groove mixer should be interesting. Also, the review in Music Tech magazine this month says that the whole program sounds
better too. Interesting times ahead...

Hi, I now have R4. The Thor is good, I programmed a couple of sounds already. The presets
are the usual cheesy rubbish, just what we need, another "Phat Bass" and "Trance Lead"
jeeze... when will they learn ? or just leave the thing blank !
I think there are
going to be some useful things, especially the dedicated arpeggiator. I've loaded in all
of my R3 sounds and they all seem to work fine.

Hi Joe, you don't need to, you'll have all the features of R3, plus R4 ! As I said, all
the original sounds are still there, plus the synth's etc, it is good, you won't regret
it.

I'm looking forward to it - was going to order it the other week but I made the mistake of
checking my bank account first, and discovered I was really skint, so I'll probably leave
it for a couple of months :-(

You know how it works for us gear sluts Jon. You must NEVER check bank
accounts, cc statements or consult with the wife. I thought this was a
given.

FAVORITES: I read on a Props forum that these are stored in a .INI file in the program
directory, so I guess you can copy / back that up. I would copy the specific lines out as
the R4 version of the .INI file might be different
Reason 3 & 4 together: When
you install R4 it un-installs R3 first!
Patches: All R3 patches exist in R4.
There are loads of new patches in R4 including new ones for old effects / instruments.

I haven't had a real chance to explore mine properly yet, but I just opened all my Reason
3 folders on my memory stick and loaded them in, it all seems to work fine. I just created
a new set of "favorite folders" in the patch window, and put all my sounds in there, one
folder for each instrument.
