Interesting... Reminds me a bit of the DX200, which I used to own. In the end, it was a bit frustrating to work with - not enough knobs to twiddle for a start, and also sonically somewhat limited. This little Virus thing might be similar in that regard (love my Virus b, though! )

Well, since Waldorf have decided to sell the Blofeld at a discontinued price right from the off, they'll probably still sell plenty

Loving the look of the Snow though!

Access say it's 'the most affordable Virus ever' on their presentation thing. Which is an intriguing statement given that my Virus Rack I got new about 5 years ago was around £500.

True. Although the Rack had a crippled sound-engine, whereas this thing doesn't.

affordable is a very relative concept....

You would be better off getting a used TI for that price. I got my Polar TI for 900 quid.

Maybe so - but the rack is a Virus (and done me lovely crippled or not).
Having seen the DV Snow price Access are telling fibby wibbies when they say it is the most affordable Virus ever, because it isn't.
I agree that the price doesn't compare impressively to the full TI desktop. Not really a huge development it seems to me. Basically at said price seems only really welcome to someone who was going to get a TI anyway and could do with a smaller one.

That's far too expensive!!! At £500 - £600 MAYBE, but at £829, there's not a hope in hell I'd buy one new. I'd rather buy a 2nd hand Ti, some which I've seen sell for the same or less.

Tell u what would've been cool ... if it also doubled as an elektron drum machine thingy.

The price tag might have been justiifed then.

Also a quality phantom xlr mic in that was open to sound mangling of the Snow.
As well as spdif in & out.

Yeah it's way too compromised at that price and makes no sense at all since you can buy the Ti rack/polar/board for not a lot more and have the full roast. Why are they competing with there own market?

Harmony Central links.

[TI OS v2.7]:

"The new OS version includes a new control centre application for Apple Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows XP and Vista. Using the stand alone application users can overwrite the ROM patches of their Viruses with their own sounds and perform complete memory backups for safety reasons and archiving.

OS 2.7 furthermore increases the amount of audio streams from the TI into the Virus Control plug-in by 50% and adds input side chaining capabilities. This way, users can send audio from the host sequencer into the Virus' sound engine all digitally, process it with the TI's filters and FX and finally loop it back into the sequencer.

The new operating system also increases the amount of ROM sounds to 26 banks with 128 patches each (that's, including the RAM banks, a total of nearly 4000 onboard sound patches). Among the new patches are patches by Dean Coleman, Stuart Price (Madonna), Numb and many others.

Pricing & Availability OS 2.7 is available to every Virus TI user free of charge and can be downloaded in Spring 2008".

[Access-Music Atomizer] (realtime MIDI stutterer):-

"Access Music shows a technology preview of Atomizer on the winter NAMM show in Anaheim, California. Atomizer allows you slice and dice audio in realtime using a MIDI keyboard. Stutter effects were made famous by artists including Aphex Twin, Trentemoeller, Squarepusher, BT and many others. In order to create those effects they either had to chop audio regions by hand or use semi-automatic plug-ins (which don't necessarily give you a great deal of control since they are intended to create random results). Atomizer works in a totally different way — once sync'ed to tempo you can play those slices in realtime, so you can virtually chop up your singer's voice while he's performing or add unique effects to your DJ set. You can record the slicing process into your sequencer and edit it later along with the rest of your song. You can remix in realtime as well, with the modulation wheel becoming an intelligent cross-fader, while the pitch-wheel lets you change the pitch by approximately 4 octaves. And there are tons of effects including sample rate and bit rate reduction algorithms which, again, can be used in realtime and become a part of your performance."

I have the honour of owning an access virus kc synth 61 key keyboard and believe me nothing beats the millions of knobs that creates the most unbelieveable sounds ever that comes with it, how can you play with an access virus snow? theres only 6 knobs and loads of 80's style plastic buttons, heres what i think the knobs and buttons do:

TURN KNOB LEFT FOR 'YES' OR RIGHT FOR 'NO'

knob 1: is an access virus now owned by a bunch of eskimos?
knob 2: tells you do you regret buying this?
knob 3: tells you do you wish you had bought a TI now?
knob 4: do you want to turn me off yet?

the last 2 knobs

knob 5: volume output
knob 6: PAN LEFT/RIGHT

Buttons 1-23:

Button 1: learn & spell
Button 2: tetris
Button 3: calculator
Button 4: memo's
Button 5: utorrent
Button 6: paint
Button 7: mac os x 9.2
Button 8: word 97
Button 9: windows 3.1
Button 10: msn
Button 11: upgrade to a TI
Button 12: pay per view
Button 13: teletext
Button 14: word scrabble
Button 15: Dance ejay
Button 16: sudoku
Button 17: yahoo chat
Button 18: the weather
Button 19: ebay
Button 20: itunes
Button 21: online banking

Button 22: Sound Bank Group A
Button 23: Sound Bank Group B

---------------------------------------------------------

Well i was nearly right!

--------------------------------------------------------

I just love the KC and TI coz i know that access has got that spot on!

And whats with all products of access relating to the antarctic now, in the summer they gunna bring you the ACCESS VIRUS IGLOO and an eskimo to play it

Well i'm a prouder owner of a Virus TI Polar

IMHO the DV price of the TI Snow is not too far off. To me, something like £799 sounds about right, considering the desktop TI still costs £1200 new, and the beautiful looking Polar and the 61 Keyboard version still cost £1599.

The TI Snow still has the same features as the other TI's, now upto 6000 patches, and full Virus Control via PC/Mac, which works pretty solid on the lastest OS. You get a high quality audio interface too, Midi in and Midi out, alot more over a Blofeld for example.

Bottom line is, why should Access make this unit any cheaper? I paid alot of money for my Virus TI, why should it be a bargain for anybody else.

Even at £850 it is still a great price imo for a new product with a full warranty.

why should it be a bargain for anybody else?

answer is:

because only greedy people want access virus's all to themselves, i just think its great that other people can have the access virus's, could you imagine if every track you hear incorporates an access virus and you can hear that true lovely access virus sound, wouldnt you rather tracks were made out of these beutiful machines that a shitty B CLASS synth, spread the love of the access virus to people that cant afford it, thats what i say!

soon everyone will have one!

thats wicked,

just dont be greedy with your virus, not mentioning the thousands of owners that already own them, you'll be suprised at how many people actually own a virus these days, and thats quite alot, coz the avarage virus rack sells seconedhand now for £300 - £500, the ti racks ive seen for £750 in my local secondhand music shop, and ti keyboards and polars are now in turnkey for £1200, the ti racks are retailing at £1000, and virus b rack goes for £400, and virus kc goes for £600-£700, its not exactly alot of money is it, i dont think owning an access virus these days really is exclusive as you think coz i yet know alot of people who own them, and they just make tunes in the bedrooms lol, access virus's are so cool that kids are getting into them at schools, coz i know 1 pupil at a secondary school who has a ti in a mini studio at his school, and if your a student you get quite abit of money of too at some retailers!

This new virus looks like an interesting option for anyone who is limited for space.

This would be great for someone who has a software based studio and uses a MIDI controller keyboard.

The Virus control plug-in is a great interface for creating and editing patches, and this will no-doubt be included with the new virus.
