Bass Amp new
      #575698 - 03/02/08 04:29 PM
Hi,The bass player in the band is using a Line 6 Low Down 150w amp.Now the line out is an xlr socket with an accompanying ground lift button beside it.My question is, is this simply a built in DI box and if so should phantom power be used on the desk? The downloaded manual doesn't explain too much about it.

Thanks Casiokeys, I mic my lads amp/speaker and have full control of his lead guitar in FOH, but the bass I can only increase in FOH not decrease, would this be something to do with the line out?

are you saying that his amp on stage is too loud for you to have any control over it for foh other than making it louder then? in which for you to have full control he needs to decrease his stage volume

Hi,His overall volume on stage takes any control FOH from me,this is what you're saying.I suspected that, we had trouble before with backline spill, so I posted on here then showed the band sos answers and they had toned it down a bit.Trouble is the drummer is an old punk drummer pro,the bass player claims he can't hear himself.I have aquired a couple of stage monitors so if I strap one on his shoulder it should solve my problem. Thanks for your help.

bass can be a problem in some venues -the guy onstage thinks its at an ok level, but it's booming around the auditorium. try getting him closer to the cab?

Angle the amp or get it to head height let the PA do the work and use the amp as a monitor ?

As Ed_Menance suggests angling the amp backwards would probably be the best way forward, especially as the Line 6 LoDown combo is designed with this in mind. Use the amp tilted back on stage so that the sound is projecting more at the bass player's head so it can be run at a lower volume. You should then be able to control the levels better FOH. If the bass player still insists that they can't hear the bass you could try placing the amp at the side, facing across the stage (still tilted back) as this may allow the amp to be run louder on stage without impacting too much on FOH.

I used to point my bass cab directly across the stage rather than at the audience, which helps the FOH guy tremendously.
Sounds like you need to tie your drummers elbows to his waist as well! (grin)

I ought to know why this works, but I don't - however, rather than move the bass cab closer to the bass player, try moving it farther away.

Maybe it's something to do with letting the sound develop - I dunno, but it's always worked when I've tried it. And the Lopwdown 150 is a tilting cab anyway, so move it back and tilt it up.

Thanks guys, some useful tips, and taken onboard. My biggest problem is I think, that I'm working with a drummer who builds sheds in his spare time and a bass player who is deaf.
