Good moulded hearing protection.
      #582107 - 19/02/08 11:49 AM
Hey there,

Looking for some hearing protection after seeking advice from my local hearing people... they recommended ER15 moulded earplugs that cost something like £150.

There are so many manufacturers offering them though... can anyone recommend one to me? A manufacturer that does fancy designs on them would be nice too... although, that is not a priorty ;-P

I'm not sure about that many makes but I got some made by a company called Green Leopard a few years ago and you can change the filters so have 5,10,15 (or whatever they come in). They seem to have bases over England. I'm quite happy with mine, although they took a bit of getting used to. I have no comparisons though - I know there was an SOS question and answer a while ago about ear plugs and they spoke about a few different types - the sax player in my band got whatever they recommended (non-moulded) and he seems happy with them until he gets some moulded ones. Not sure about designs though - never really thought about asking about that! I was more bothered about them not being too obvious!

Richard.

...I don't think fancy designs should matter when it comes to your hearing..

I can recommend the ER15s. I phoned up www.hearingprotection.co.uk and they gave me the number of a local audiologist who did a clinic about 5mins from my house. She took the moulds and I had them within 6-8 weeks.

Hope that helps,
D

I can't find it anywhere either but it was a Q and A and a guy was saying that he'd seen a band live in which one the members was wearing headphones and could this be used for in-ear monitoring/hearing protection - quite a few links for ear plug manufacturers were mentioned in the answer. Maybe someone else knows when it was - it wasn't too long ago? I can ask the sax player next time I see him.

Green Leopard seem to not have the musician's ear plugs up yet. I do find that having ear plugs make gigs where the P.A. is ridiculous for the size of venue alot more enjoyable and actually easier to hear individuals playing rather than just one big sound!!

I'm sure you've looked at these but here they are anyway:
