Yes felt it here too.

Its epicentre was near Market Rasen in Linconshire, 5.2 on the Richter Scale @ about 00.50 last night.

What kind of low frequency rumble would that create on a mic?
Glad I invested in cradles for my tlm103's, would you recommend put a low cut on if there was a chance of earthquake?

It was strong enough to shake the entire house in Herts.

Between 2-4 Hz I'd say in my area coming in waves of around 5-10 secs.

(Pah! that'll really fix 'em)

So how much rockwool would you need to damp that out?

I think this all belongs in the subharmonics thread.

That was a bloody scary experience...
we are near the epicentre and our bed literally jumped off the floor and a glass door on a display cabinet shattered. It felt like a massive sine-wave running through the house.

++1 for scary

I thought the house was going to fall down

It was really windy last night so I thought it was some kind of mini tornado at first - took me a couple of minutes to realise it was another quake.
My wife trained as a geologist so was really pissed off that she missed it.

Quite impressive here in Cleethorpes - it caught me whilst I was nipping to the loo! First thought was actually "earthquake" followed by a thought that the petrol refinery nearby at Killingholme had gone up - I was about 4 miles away from there when a storage tank blew up a few years back and that was pretty impressive too...

Having just seen "Cloverfield" the other day, I did think it could have been another part of their viral marketing

We are about 40 mies from Market Raisen. Just gone to bed, just dozing off. It woke me out of my slumbers, was a pretty heavy vibration through the house. The dogs slept through it. Did not realise at the time it was an earth quake though, could not fathom it out. we have various areas of the house dug out (relaying floors) and thought the foundations had moved, so stayed awake most of the night just in case.

Over here in Worcester it was a bit of a non event. About 15 seconds of VLF shaking -- presumably it was a ground wave by the time it got here.

I remember the one back in 2004 that had its epicentre in Birmingham and that felt completely different and much more violent -- but that was because it was a vertical wave to us (I think -- I'm no geologist).

Scary things.

Bloomin' 'eck - it rattled the radiators and moved my alarm clock!

Closest I can get to that sound is my Moog Taurus - they vibrate pictures off our walls downstairs!

On a serious note, there was one local here who was injured when a chimney collapsed on him. Poor man.

Wonder if there are 'harmonic nodes' of a quake that means that the effects are stronger at certain radii from the centre?

i'm in Lincoln and it sounded like someone stomping around in our attic while the RAF were doing Vulcan engine testing at the same time. I had to get up to check round the house (i think we've got at least one new crack in the plaster).

when i did get back to bed i did think that i should be out in the garden burying mics in poly bags in the garden to catch the aftershocks, but i was fast off when the next one came at 4am.

quite an awe-inspiring experience, left my heart pounding when i'd realised what it was.

Well... apparently the surface vibrations were caused by 'Love Waves'.

No... seriously!!!!

Sounded like a bomb going off in Derbyshire. We thought someone was breaking-in to the house. Until the bed started bouncing around the room.

I was despatched with a hockey stick to catch the intruder in just my grundies.

Not a pretty sight.

There was an earthquake?

We are exempt from such events because High Wycombe entertains the M40, M4 and A404, and God thought; 'Man, that's enough, these guys need a break.'
