Quickshot midi keyboard with reason 3 new
      #602150 - 09/04/08 08:00 PM
hello there,

just got hold of a quickshot midi composer keyboard/controller and i'm having trouble making reason work with it.
I got the keyboard plugged into the "midi out" connection goin into a midi interface then going to USB. The PC has sorted out the interface and installed the correct drivers. (comes up as MPU-401?) or something like that. i've also tried setting up a control surface for it and still it doesnt repsond at all.
Any help would be great!

Thanks,

Jake

here is your issue - you need to send midi information "in" to the USB midi box
so the midi cable should go "out" from the keyboard "in" to the midi usb port....you're sending midi signals out from the keyboard in to the usb box to control reason.

Yup,

i've done that, it was one of the first things i made sure was right when connecting it. still not working haha!
Reason asks you to make sure that data entry slider is set to send midi volume (CC#7)

Now i've read up alot on the net about this product and theres no instruction manual for this at all. so wether the keyboard settings need to be changed i'm not too sure but what iam sure is that i havent a clue how to work it.
i really don't know what else could be wrong what im doing.

ok....having a quick trawl around seems to reveal very little - i am going to presume some things then....

so - your using the quickshot as a "generic" midi controller - sending signals into the computer via the midi box

so you need to go to the preferences section (which i beleive is under the edit tab) of reason and assign a "generic keyboard" (as i think you have done)

then make sure that the midi input section at the bottom is showing the usb midi in as selected and you should be ok....

Greetings Jake,

Back when I first started I had a lead that was two DIN sockets at one end and a 15 pin D Sub (game port connector) at the other - this was my 'MIDI interface' at the time and it worked well. The computer recognized this as, yes you guessed it, 'MPU-401'. Basically, you're picking up the on-board sound card's MIDI i/o instead of the other (unnamed) USB interface's i/o, which would (should?) be recognized as either a 'USB Audio Device' or 'USB MIDI Device'.

Do you have any other equipment that outputs MIDI to test my theory. If you do, I suspect that the computer won't pick that up either. I think your solution lies in re-installing the USB MIDI interface drivers, assuming it came with some. There might even be an installation wizard that gives you the option of (re-)installing, uninstalling and repairing in which case it's probably worth trying a repair first.

HTH
