Duende, Duet & external drive buss question new
      #633092 - 03/07/08 02:05 PM
Hi folks,

I have a apogee duet and 1gb (raid0) external drive on my macbook pro, using the fw400 and fw800 ports respectively.

I'd like to add a Duende 19inch rack unit to my setup and would like to ask what would be the best way to do it.

Probably the best thing is to make use of the express card slot and get either a fw400 card and use the duende with or without the duet on it.

Or, get a fw800 express card and use only the external drive for best streaming.

Any ideas which setup would be best? i don't really know how demanding the duende is. Maybe it doesn't really matter and i should go for the cheapest express card?

Thanks

I'd get the better card personally.

Exavior Music Hiya,

What i meant was, would it be better to have the duende on its on buss using an express card, or put the external drive on its own buss?

Putting a hard drive on the same FW bus as a Duende is typically not a good idea.

Duet and Duende play nicely together one a single bus.

Don't know if this helps, but it is at least a practical solution. All depends on if your Mac has 2 FW buses or a split bus running to the 2 ports (which I'm afraid my expertise doesn't run to).

You could alwys fit one of the 7200rpm drives into the MacBook and use USB drives for backup?

Thats great, exactly what i needed to know! I'll put the duende and duet on the built in firewire ports and get a fw800 express card for the external drive.

Cheers :-)
