Logic and plugins
      #640940 - 26/07/08 03:55 PM
Hello people.

If this is something that was already there (somewhere in SOS forum) please send me to the right threat - I'll deal with it.

I've been doing music for a while, but I switched to Logic (and whole Mac thing - from PC)recently and I learn as I go along.
I've got some plugins that I'd like to use, but I have no idea how and where to install them.

Could you help me with it?
What's the procedure? (Do I click, do I drag...)
If it's just dragging - what's the folder?
What if I don't have that folder - do I create one?

That will be another thing I'll learn.
Every day something new - brilliant.

Thanks guys!

There are different extensions.

dmg - what do I do with it?
zip - what I this is compressed?

I'm sure you know much more of it, so any info will be very appreciated.

Thanks again.

If it's a .dmg just double click, double the drive symbol that will appear on your desktop and you might get a .pkg file that clicking will start an installer process which will put everything where it's meant to go. If it's zipped just double click to unpack the contents.
If no installer, you stick the plugin component in Library/Audio/Plug Ins/Components

Hi

Thank you.
I've just installed some plugins and...

I can see only 2 of 3...
Any idea why - they are all Universal Binary.

Might be an idea to get some Mac training before you go delving into the folders. They're really quite easy once you get the hang of the basics.

www.macprovideo.com do a great tutorial that will have you flying around your Mac in no time. I think its only £20 or so.

Good luck

Six

In the Components folder, you'll see .component files. Logic uses Audio Units format plugins and that is how they appear. Make sure your plugins are Audio Units. VST plugins will not work, though you can convert them if AU versions are not available, assuming they are Universal Binary versions.
