Shure KSM137's - live use

Hi all
I've been looking at a used pair of these mics, and have been doing a
bit of review reading. The SOS review looks and reads quite well, however these aren't a
model of mic i've really come across before. The review dates from 2003, when i guess
thare was some sort of launch and they probably were a little better known then.
The question really is, why haven't i come across them before? Is there an issue with
them that has stopped people buying them or am i just not moving in the right circles?
I'm after a pair of small diaphragm condensers to suppliment my pair of SE1a's.
Use will be as drum overheads, stereo recording and occasionally as float mics for a
stage. The price on these is pretty good so if possible, i'd like to go for them,
but clearly won't if there are issues.
the SOS review doesn't state that these
great mics or that they are anything special, but the new price tag looks an awful lot
more than my SE1a's were. Will they be better?

My initial reaction would be yes, they should be better than the SE1a. As long as they are
cardioid polar pattern then there shouldn't be any problems with using them for live sound
as well. If you're still unsure see if you can find someone who has them and do
an A/B test.

Thanks
I'm guessing that the number of replies shows how many people are
actually using these things. Perhaps they aren't very "rider friendly". Nevertheless, it's
not something i'm particularly bothered about, i just want a pair of small diaphragm's
that sound good and are cheap. If these fulfil the purpose then they sound good to me.
They are an expensive (compared to the SE1a's) mic, so you'd expect them to step up a
gear. The SOS review doesn't tear a strip off of them, so perhaps all will be well, just
wondered how many others had played with them?
I'm away for a week now, so if i
don't reply, i'm not being rude!

They seem to be appearing more on technical riders I have come across in last few months,
I have seen them used for Hi Hats/Ride mics on drum kits and percussion toys or overheads.
I think the only reason you don't see more of them, in live sound, is there is
already a huge array of SDC for those applications, Shure SM81, AT 4041, SE300/CK91, AKG
451 etc etc.

I have used a pair of KSM-137's in a church setting for several years. We also have an
SM-81. The 137's are very low noise, rugged, light weight and are just a good general
purpose cardiod SDC. We have used them as a stereo pair for recording, spaced pair for
live choral sound, various acoustical instruments such as piano, violin, guitar, banjo,
flute, high hats and the list goes on. We even had a youth group that used them on a bass
drum!
I recently purchased a pair of Peluso CEMC6 mics and would like to
compare them with the 137's. No experience with the SE mics but have heard generally good
things about them.
Best wishes - Dave

Back from a week of muddy festival-going!
Thanks for the replies. I
purposefully didn't post in the mics section as i'm very definately looking from a live
perspective, but i may add a thread over there as well.
From what i'm hearing,
they sound pretty ok for the job and the price is good. Will wait and see if the seller
gets back to me and then i'll perhaps be able to post some hands on findings of my own.
