OKay so i hear their stuff is excellent for the price. Great quality, really does what it says it should do etc etc.

I just dont get why on some units they take things away. For instance on the ONEq, you can choose to have the compressor before or ater the EQ stage. Yet on the TWINQ you cant. Why? They also put the XLR inputs on the back. Why anythign owuld have them on the back is beyond me. Most racks are hard to get to the back of! So why have stuff there? Space issue perhaps...

Also, ont he MC2, it seems to be the same compressor as the TWINq and ONEQ yet it adds a stereo width feature.
Why the hell dont they put that feature on the twinq?

I'd quite like to get a twinQ, its great for basses apprently and ill be gettin a bass guitar very soon. My trackmaster pro is alright, but would like something more flexible and....meeky. Id also like to try it out as a master compressor for mastering my final mixdowns. See how it fairs at that compared with using PSP vintage warmer which i quite like to use at the moment

Anyone got any thoughts on the meek stuff?

and a sc3 compressor (beta 2nd one ever produced....gloat )
they are both amazing bits of kit....

I imagine they have connectors on the back so people who have racks of the stuff dont have lots of cables hanging down the front, and to keep the space for pots etc. Lots of studios will just have all of the rack stuff coming out the back going into a patchbay anyway.

Yeah thats a good point. I thnk i overlook the use of a patchbay to be honest. Id like to get some outboard effects, and also be able to use the effects on my Virus C, JP and Supernova. WOuld also be sweet to route stuff to the filter on my SH-09 which is pretty nice.

I shold really look into getting a patchbay, but dont really know where to start with them! Are they easy to use?

they're alright. EQ is good! The only thing I would say is ffffffffffffffffffffffffssssssssss - little noisy!!

Okay ive looked up about patchbays. Seems like it could be a little confusing but worth it if i was to continue expanding my studio. Which i do seem to be doing!

The meeks are noisy are they? Thats odd, mayb eits part of the vintage charm. Im sure it could be removed with a de-esser like x-noise? But then might be getting rid of other elements that make it up its sound

not hugely noisy - but if you track a vocal through 'em and you want to compress it hard - ffffffssssss!

Same for using them as an instrument amp - DI's bass into one for example.

I see, well for my purposes a small amount of noise wouldnt matter too much i shouldn tthnk. The style of my band is quite rough so shouldt be a problem. If it really was too much i oculd always sell it again!

What unit do you have can i ask?

Joe Meek specific? A few of the half rack things and a full rack EQ - forget the name. Also got an old compressor , 2u by full rack - never use it these days, but I never sell my gear!

I used to use the Joe Meek stuff a lot many moons ago - but it mostly just sits in the control rooms here... I think my business partner uses one for tracking vintage bass sounds very so often....

I see, well i hope it's fair to assume you have a lot of expensive gear then that youd rather use. Or are you all software now?

Would a meek be a good buy for someone on a budget.

i used to have a meek channel strip.

It was OK, but I thought the output sounded slightly harsh when compared with my other, similar priced, TLA pre.

If I still had it I would probably use it for tracking synths, but nothing to delicate.

I think they are all very fairly priced and quite useable. They are certainly in the gritty dirty scheme of things - so more suitable to rock n roll than much else - although I have seen a couple of people use pre's for live string quartets! - wouldn't be my choice!

They are pretty comparable with TLA in terms of bang for buck - just different that's all.
