Hi, I have a KRK ERGO that I intended to use as a Firewire audio interface as well
(supposed to offer this feature) but on Mac it looks like Apple Leopard Firewire Driver
has issues and I can't get the sound to go from my MAC to my monitors
Unles the
issue is resolved I have two options 1) use the digital output from the Mac Pro
(Toslink) to maybe go into the Digital input in the KRK ERGO (SPDIF). And viceversa I
guess to have digital I/O in the system. In this case I need to find a cable that
goes from Toslink to SPDIF I think
2) send the ERGO back and go for alternative
solution. IN this case what options do I have for an internal audio card for latest Mac
Pro that will give me Digital I/O, Analogue I/O, hopefully zero latency?

Interesting - I didn't realize KRK were touting the ERGO as a firewire interface, but I've
just checked their website and it does indeed say the firewire spec is capable of 4 in 6
out operation (in the small print of the tech specs)
Basically though, it's
main selling point is as a 1) room correction device and 2) monitor switcher. If you want
to keep the room correction you'll need to hang onto the ERGO and and buy a separate audio
interface as well
If you're not bothered about the room correction, the ERGO
seems a strange purchase in the first place - just out of interest, have you been able to
measure your room using the mic? Or can your Mac not see the mic inputs at all? How have
you set it up so far? If you can't get your Mac to even see the device for the purposes of
room calibration I would suggest contacting KRK for some tech support
While
you're at it I would ask them if it's really supposed to work as an audio interface -
because they don't seem to be selling that feature very hard if it is
To
answer your questions about workarounds:
1) There's not much point using the
Mac's built-in digital output (TOSLINK) - to do anything with music and recording you need
a decent low-latency audio interface
2)There are loads of options - search this
forum for some favourites but it depends a lot on budget, how many ins and outs you need,
etc etc

Hi, back from holiday sorry for the delay.
Yes the calibration stage was
fine because the ERGO emits the sound waves it requires to calibrate its filters. So the
connection between ERGO and Monitors and ERGO and included MIC are fine. You don't need
audio coming off the MAC for calibrating the ERGO. You don't need audio going through the
external MIC into the MAC to calibrate the ERGO.
Yes I bought the ERGO because
I wanted to use it for all its features, room correction, speaker/Sub switcher, volume
control, firewire I/O.
I tried a few different things with help from some KRK
guy. But the problem is still there. When outputtinbg audio off Logic or even playing an
mp3 song through an MAC mp3 player if the audio goes through the ERGO is comes out liek
ecohed noise. The only strange improvement so far was that now I can hear the first 10
seconds of my track just fine then the bad noise kicks in.
