Parmit, while your story is very endearing, can I offer you just a wee bit of advice? You
mention going to University, and having secured a little studio job - I would suggest in
both these areas, learning how to spell, punctuate and phrase your sentences will help you
equally as being able to make sik beatz! I mean this with the best of
intentions.

It
might be of some use when writing essays, projects and dissertations for the
aforementioned degree course.

Yes, but
it's not a forum for angry teenagers! Try and make an effort, it's polite and
you'll get a better response to your questions. The practice will no doubt benefit you in
the real world as well.

That's a fair
enough response, and one I half expected. I don't care one little bit, to be honest. But
I've seen it happen so many times on this forum, where folk come in and ask a question, or
post something, and it's littered with txt spk, and no-one takes it seriously. The
choice is yours.

parmit, I'm writing as a forum moderator. I'm sorry if you feel some of the regulars have
been less than helpful, but they have a point. Just read pretty well any thread on this
site and you will see that we don't do text-speak. We try to communicate with each other.
And having seen a hundred threads or more about people's aspirations at
college/uni or whatever (and some of these regulars teach such courses and are part of the
admissions process), I can assure you they are well intentioned in saying you probably
need to use the rest of the world's preferred means of communication to maximise your own
chances, because the rest of the world is not going to change for you.
There's
no need for hostility (by anyone). But to the extent that there's a question in your OP -
I'm not sure there is, strictly - it seems to be about going to uni to improve your
skills.
Which is somewhat inviting people to make suggestions as to how you
might best achieve that.

What is amazing about Italians is that they speak their dialect (which is a different
language) at home and among people from the same region and standard Italian to outsiders
or foreigners. They have absolutely no difficulty doing this, it is normal for them. Therefore just because you use text abbreviations only on a mobile you can still use
standard English on a forum. It is not that difficult. Remember some people on this forum
do not have English as a native language anyway.
I am going off-topic for one
sentence; in Italy, Spain, France and Germany, speaking a language correctly is admired,
in the U.K. it is seen as negative.
However Parmit, I have been to college and
got a career and a life. You presumably want the same so get advice where you can find it,
such as on this forum.

Hi P
Welcome to ere foruuuume.
I saw your post last nite, i
personally thought it was quite cool.
I got the feeling that you were being light
hearted and just wanted to genuinely findout about peoples stories
(& when
needed you could write properly).
When we had an Off-Topic forum section,
your post would have been ideal, we would have responded in similar text speak, welcomed
you, had a laugh.
Sadly we no longer have an OT, on its day it was one of the
best OT, built a wonderful feeling of community.
Anyhoo, best wishes with all
your endeavours.

No, you're absolutely right. And for my little jibe I apologise - I made a dangerous
assumption from the way you speak (write), that you were a clueless 'producer'. Funny how
a few words can change your perception, eh? But therein lies the problem. To
actually be an audio engineer takes years, and your initial enquiry about 'trying to do
music as a carear' [sic] prompted my reply. You will need to be able to write and spell
properly if you go to University - it's a fact.
Oh, and there weren't too many

I never imagined that everyone here
did. I went to Immingham comprehensive - so good they've closed it
down now and given the premises to a bunch of bible bashers.
Still, now that
you understand the conventions of this particular forum, perhaps we can have a sensible

Well now you are writing in English,
it`s Sarciness not sarcyness.
Ivan, Head of Speling Poleece.
P.S.
You can`t help being from East London - somebody has to come from there. I`m an old
ex-West Ender myself and moved to wildes Cambridgeshire years ago.... For what its wporth
I still have trouble understanding the locals. A thought: If you already have a job
in a studio, you are way ahead of most of the folks who have actually already graduated
from Uni. My advice to you would be to hang onto that studio job with both hands,
knuckles white, and maybe think about expanding your theoretical knowledge by doing part
time or evening courses on top.
P.P.S. My crap typing is caused by arthritsi

I would firstly like to hear these credits
because personally I know people who have been involved with high profile acts and you
know what..... they wouldn't be thinking about going to university.
Also many
people who are dyslexic still try and spell things properly and structure their sentances
properly. So my advice is that if you are already being trusted to engineer high profile
acts, then you don't need to learn anything from uni.

You
won't be the only one who texts. I'm sure nearly every member of this forum does that on
their mobile phone. But this isn't a mobile phone and there isn't a 180-character limit
per message.
Generally speaking, you don't find people correcting each other's
English here unless there's an amusing typo, what's been written is unclear, or the error
itself could cause some music tech-related problem (such as complaining that Linux won't
respond to a text command which has been misspelled in the first place). Our first
priority is usually helping out with the original poster's query or joining in the
discussion, not pointing out their misplaced apostrophes, so long as the meaning is clear.
By the way, I don't recall anyone suggesting that East Londoner equals rapper
equals murderer.

me going to uni is to get a higher paid position...working with people who might actually

parmit - trust me on this one. DO a search on SAE in particular but on Music
Yech/Recording/etc courses in general and look at where the overwhelming majority if
opinions lie, even among those who have completed these courses.
I can`t think
of a thing you could learn at SAE etc that you can`t learn "on the side" so to speak. PLEASE if you genuinely do have paid employment in a studio (and I am not doubting you
for a second) STAY THERE.
Your best way to improving your career path since you
are already a paid professional in the industry is to keep plugging away at what you are
doing, network like crazy to spread your name around and just build that reputation.
The money will come automatically if you are good enough and get yourself about
enough. Most of the courses available are geared towards wannabes and in fact there
are several posts in this same area decrying the poor quality of MTech courses, never mind
anything more soph9isticated.
SAE etc are fine if you just want to educate
yourself for th3e hell of it, but the likelihood of the end qualification getting you back
in to a job at the same level as the one you leave to do the course is pretty remote. Ask any of the studio owners on here who they would look at more seriously as an
employee: someone recently graduated from SAE (forexample) or someone with a proven track
record and a willingness to learn more. Was the course(s() you did a BTech, or what?
