I've got a Vox AC30 CC1 that I bought second hand about a year ago...
With the
gain down it's got a decent enough clean sound but as soon as I turn the gain up it sounds
brittle and fizzy and compressed. Warm would not be a word I'd use to describe it...
Is this normal or does it need to go to the amp doctor? Could it be a valve
issue?
I dont think it should "brittle" and fizzy as you put it. This could be a pre-amp valve
problem and its probably worth swapping these out. Does it sound like this through all 3
channels?
Try selecting the "Normal" channel and increasing the volume (not the
master) - this channel should sound quite dull and dark. The brilliant channel is harsh
sounding by comparison.
