      #701794 - 26/01/09 10:05 PM
Does anyone know the person who is selling the Roland MPG80 at the classified section?

I have emailed them but no reply. I think their spam filter is blocking the SOS classified mails.

Synth Modules : Roland MPG-80 remote control for mks-80 synth module. very good condition . pictures available.
£950. Email (Cap d'Ail, France) 26/01/09

Thanks!

Maybe.

The average price for an MKS&MPG is around £1500-2000.

The price of vintage synths, compressors, mic pres etc is just rising and rising.

I brought my Arp 2600, Model D MiniMoog and my Oberheim Xpander 7 years ago and the prices have nearly doubled.

In fact I saw an Arp 2600 on ebay this month sell for $10k. No joke. $10k.

http://global.ebay.com/ARP_2600_vintage_analog_synthesizer_-_CLEAN/2303162 37803/item

They are just gonna get more and more expensive. The is a finite supply and this equipment is now a safer, more profitable investment than property.

If you've ever fancied a Neve, Moog etc move fast before the prices climb higher.....

There was an MKS / MPG lot in the recent VEMIA auction which only fetched just over a grand. For some reason they don't seem to be nearly as sought-after as Jupiter 8s.

Speaking as a (more than happy) MKS/MPG owner, I will admit that, regardless of any other feature, the Jupe 8 is stunningly beautiful. Almost worth the asking price just to gaze upon it's knobby glory. The most beautiful synth ever made?

Another one of those pieces of gear I had the chance to buy at a pittance once upon a time, but turned down.

I think the JD-800 is quite a looker too.

I need to get out more...

Oddly enough I sold mine just before Christmas. It's beautiful but not that beautiful! I thought about getting an MKS as a replacement, but I think I'm just going to leave polysynth duties to software and look for an interesting mono instead.

...just as an alternative to (in my opinion) VERY high asking prices for just a programmer: get a Behringer BCR2000 and programm it for the jupe. Yes, it is Behringer, but it does the job very well (I use one as a PG800 and I have got the original controller, too; BCR is more than up to the job!). And the mks is worth to have the controller just dedicated to itself, so you can label the BCR properly. With this it will work a treat. And it does not look bad at all with all the lights on.

the jp8 sounds a lot different from the mks80 and other jp/jx series to me. all are excellent synths, imo.
programmers on their own dont show up for sale that much. theyre often bundles with mks80s. we sell them on their own though as some people prefer to use patch editors or various other knob boxes with their mks80s. youre more likely to get a better deal buying the pair and then selling the mks80 though people will likely tell you your mks80 wont sell without the mpg80. it will.

There's not a great deal in it, unless you reallay really listening and know both units better than you know yourself.

Not quite the JP series, but certainly the JX series.

Cheers,

one question comes to my mind when i read posts likes these: where are the original manufacturers? surely, with the rising price of used equipment companies like roland would bring out a "TB-304" or something like that. I think all of us would prefer to buy a new jupiter 8 rather than a potetially dodgy one which may need repairs. am i missing something?

From what I hear it's the manufacturing costs that keep them from re-making these old beasts, also you have the probelem of what do you change/not change to keep faithfull and you will always have the purist who will say the original is still better, also various parts are no longer made from pots to IC's and transistors.
For example the re-make of the Urei 1620 aka the 1620LE is still not as good sounding as the original 1620 for various reasons technicaly.

Hmm... I suppose so but there's practically a whole industry based around TB303 clones - so there must still be components available to a certain extent. moog kind of did that with the voyager old school i suppose...

I have been wanting to get schematics for an octave kitten etc and build my own version from scratch - i just need the knowledge which hopefully ill get when i start my elec. engineering degree!!

£950 just for the programmer is ridiculous. I've seen quite a few in recent months around the £650 - £700 mark. There have been a few combos up here for just over a grand.

An alternative controller to the Behringer is the Doepfer Drehbank - though it's all on knobs, no faders.

Personally I think the MKS80 sounds closer to the Jupe 6 than the 8 - the 6 and MKS are both decent synths, but you have to hit the sweet spots for it to sound good - it's very easy to make it sound like soggy ass. The JP8 is much more forgiving, and is a lot easier to make sound great.

I swapped my MKS+MPG for an Andromeda a few years back, and haven't looked back.
