Yamaha LS9-32 recorder + USB memory stick = no files

So I had to record a mix for it to go on video with the LS9. I had done it before
with no problems.
But last time, the guy I was doing this for had his own USB
stick to record into and it wouldn't read it, so I tried to save the day and used my
mobile phone memory card (Sony Ericsson M2) with its adaptor and recorded into that.
I did a bit of a test and recorded my vocals and then played it back through the
desk and it was fine, so we went ahead and recorded the artist playing.
Then I
went to a PC to copy the files over and they were not there. Nothing. All the files I had
on the memory card before were still there, but none of the mixes.
WHY!? How
can one stop these things happening? I know flash memory is unreliable but you don't
really get much choice do you?
Next time I'll tell them to get an HD recorder
or a laptop with interface...
Any ideas how/why this could have happened?

Forgot to press record? I'm sure we've all done that at least once...

Did the test recording appear when plugged into the computer? Conversely, do the files
appear when you plug it into the console?

you might have pulled the plug before everything was written, or power went off before
everything was stored to drive.
Its always best to record to a usb drive of
less than 1GB and format it on the actual desk, rather than formatting it at home. That
way the drive is laid out for LS9 (song folder etc) and should work. Then once recording
has finished, and the access light goes off, go to setup and lock console. You can now
safely remove your USB stick. Obviously when i'm just saving sessions or loading, I
don't bother to lock screen and remove USB, but with recoded material its always better to
be safe than sorry. and yes moral of story.. HAVE A BACKUP!

hi, thanks for your input.
i did press record, we did a few takes, so
it's definitely not that.
i tried running a data recovery program i found and
it found 2 of the 5 files, it even played them back to me. then when i wanted to recover
them it told me i had to pay about US$70 to be a "pro" user to be able to do that.
argh.
it's gonna have to be done again, no other way about it! :-(
i'm sure i had left the usb stick plugged in for a long enough time cos i know things
like these can happen, but obviously you can't be cautious enough!

hmm.. that rings a bell. I have heard of the files being hidden, well damaged/lost. The
normal reason for this is due to the recording basically not receiving a "full stop"! The
desk has the information, i.e capital letter, punctuation and content, but something
happens and its doesn't receive full stop so can't collate recording into an mp3.
My advice would be to update the firmware of the LS9 to make sure all the little bugs
have been tweaked.
I was on a M7 in Switzerland in Jan and it hadn't been
updated since it left the factory and was on version 1.1!! This meant fader movement
between mixes was soooo slow. It's always good to keep the digi desks up to speed on their
updates.

Actually the latest update of the LS9 software slowed the faders down on the desk I was
using recently! However the speed of the faders on the LS9 have always been
quite brutal.

Yeah I heard a rumour that
this was to save fader wear as movement was perhaps a little too quick. Personally
I quite liked it (the speed not fader wear ).. makes
thing that little bit quicker, Vi6's are pretty snappy too.
