I have 8 GB of RAM installed on my Mac Pro. However, I recently noticed that the machine never seems to use more than 3.98 GB, even though both Activity Monitor and System Profiler display the full, available amount of 8 GB.
I made two screen shots of AM, first with a number of RAM-intensive apps open, including Logic. The second is with the same number of apps open, but additionally, Ivory is open as well. As one can see, in both scenarios, RAM usage never exceeds 3.98 GB, and in example #2 the computer "steals" RAM from open apps, to make space for Ivory. At this stage, the computer becomes unresponsive, and screen redraws slow down to a crawl.
Strange, eh? Has anybody come across this issue before?
Cheers.
