Yamaha CS-5 - Triggering Options - DIY CV? new
      #746317 - 22/06/09 05:37 PM
Hello all,

I've just rigged up my old Yamaha CS-5 and I'm thoroughly enjoying a bit of analogue tweakage. I'd like to be able to trigger it from my main workstation running SX3, either via a trigger input or a CV thingumejig.

I'm a complete newbie with regards to setting this up and was wondering if there was any DIY build options I could have a bash at? I've a spare midi out from my PC and have found a couple of vague articles about converting an old soundcard's minijack sockets to create a CV output, but nothing specific.

Any good resources you've come across?

If not, perhaps some recommendations for a solid budget Midi-CV whatnot to get me rolling.

Cheers.

Not really, the Yamaha is Hz/v while all DIY and kit converters appear to be V/Octave, so you are probably best served with a second hand commercial option.

The Midibox project has a Hz/v option but it is a bit complex for a beginners project.

Motu has a new software that seems to turn an audio interface with audio outs into a CV box...seems that it is mac only, though, but it seems to work not only with motu interfaces.

Thanks for those suggestions - the Midibox project looks way above my head so I think I might be opting for a Kenton product.

I can't reach the MOTU site for some reason - I think there must be regional network/DNS issues today as there's a few very large websites that are timing out on me. Volta looks interesting though - I'm just having a Google for it now.

Came across this too:

Again, by the time I've learned the jargon, bought the parts, burned my fingers, tripped the house and bricked a soundcard, I'll probably be better off with a commercial option.

Cheers.
