I'm thinking that it's an error for the 'latest posts' links under the forum section of the front page, to take you to the first post in a thread, rather than the latest?

We've looked into this and the SOS homepage Tabbed Latest Forum post links seem to have always worked this way, ie. they take you to the very start of the thread. Whereas, the Forum Index page's latest post/reply does indeed take you to the newest reply.

I think from recollection it had to work this way due to the Homepage using cacheing mechanisms and thus the cached latest reply shown on the Forum homepage might not necessarily be the latest actual thread reply if the thread is a fast-moving, active one. I think the forum posts cache is only set to around 10 minutes or something, but without such cacheing our site might suffer even longer page-loading times than it experiences when the site is at its busiest.

Those homepage Tabs were created to give a flavour of what was currently being discussed, but it might be better to do what gazillions of others do and use the Today's Active Posts link instead, as this always shows the latest posts at the top of the pages - see sub-menu link on black FORUM menu button, or the T.A.P in the yellow panel across the top of any Forum page? Many others also bookmark the Forum Index page, or main page of their favourite sub-forums like PC Music, MRT, etc.
