Found the Edirol UM-1X and UA-1X in PC World Oxford. The midi interface was at a ridiculous £4.99 rather then the normal £40 plus (£42 at Digital Village) and the audio interface was only £14.99 which is rather less than the usual £59.99. And just when I was looking for a midi interface for my laptop.

th PC World website has no Edirol products listed, therefore I called my local PC World & they said the same....do you have the PC World product code please?

quick trip to the pcworld website found the UA-1A audio interface listed under roland. product code is 758893. no sign of the midi interface there, just the audio.

According to my receipt the midi interface code is 204373.

Yep, found the audio interface, no sign of the MIDI i/f though. Tried that product code, no luck

Top tip Grahawk. I've ordered one of the audio interfaces from http://www.pcworld.co.uk for £19.98 inc delivery. How I love a bargain and how pleased my wife will be when I sneak off with her laptop.

There's no sign of the midi interface on the site, but they probably only had limited stocks to sell off anyway.

here's an update on the various deals pcworld have at the moment:

as above, the pcworld website lists only the edirol UA-1A USB audio interface (2 phono ins and 2 phono outs) under the roland name at £14.99. however, stores do have stocks of the newer UA-1X (2 phono ins, 2 phono outs, 3.5mm headphone out with rotary volume control doubling as optical output only) at £14.99, the UA-1D with optical and coaxial digital ins and outs only at £19.99 and the UM-1X midi interface with 1 in and 1 out at £4.99.

you may find that if you buy several and put the cheapest item on the top of the pile at the checkout they'll scan the first one only and type in the number of items as the boxes are the same size and similar design

thanks for the tip, grahawk. i was planning a project in the university i work at and this deal has meant i don't have to agonise about cutting back in other areas of my extremely tight budget!

Just done a search on 'Roland' & also tried 'usb sound' on the Webstore. It only comes up with the UA-1A at 69.99 It did come up with the cheaper price yesterday. Nothing on the UA-1X or the UM-1X.

Just phoned to check the Milton Keynes branch, they have three of the Midi interfaces in Stock at £49.99 Me thinks the pricing gremlins are at work.... Will still pop in to check.

It looks like some stores have the higher price and some are charging the cheap prices. On the website the older version of the audio interface is back to £69.99. On another forum someone bought the midi interface in one shop at the cheap price and in another store it was £49.99. The digital interface UA-1D (758904) may also be availbale for £19.99.

Thanks again Grahawk - my interface arrived yesterday and I seem to have benefitted doubly from PC World's mistakes - firstly in their brief pricing of the UA-1A at 14.99 and secondly as they actually sent me the UA-1X, which has the extra headphone and optical outputs. Hurrah!
