New iMac - cracked screen new
      #790174 - 23/11/09 06:21 PM
Been an absolute debacle waiting for my new i7 27" iMac, it turned up today and the screen is cracked. Just can't take anymore of Apples stress, this is an absolutely massive jump for me and I am probably biting my nose off to spite my face (well I definitely am cos I'm gonna have to buy Cubase now.....:( ) but I have asked for a refund instead of a replacement, and in a second I am off to PC world to buy a PC.

Your loss is PC Music forums gain! I'm sure those guys will love me just as much as you guys do

Over and out.

No loss here..
Anyway, the cracked screen is pretty unfortunate. However, it is probably not cracked at all. Instead it is more likely the glass screen cover which is held in with magnets. So can be replaced in a couple of minutes without so much as a screw driver.
What Mac have you been using Parallels on then?

The guy said over and out, meaning no response required. But since you have extraordinary powers of remote diagnosis can you tell me why my Record ignition key has stopped working on all but my laptop running Widows 7?

I eagerly await your reply

Over and out: You can take that to mean no response required if you want. However, it is not up to you to decide how I should interpret others posts.
Given that the OP posted his findings on a public forum, then he can expect replies, because like it or not, that is what forums are for.

Remote diagnosis: I have a similar iMac, and I know what the things are made out of. So I can speak with actual experience on them.
It doesn't take a genius to work out that a thin sheet of 27" wide glass is going to be fragile, so quite prone to damage in transit.

As for your software issues. How about instead of posting obnoxious and largely irrelevant comments in someone else's thread, you start your own thread and ask in there?

Yes, just as expected. All mouth and agression.

I'd bet you can't resist a reply despite: Over and out.

Mouth and agression? (2 g's in aggression by the way ) At least Im able to contribute with something relevant to what the OP posted about. Which evidently is something you take great pride in failing at. Still, coming from someone calling themselves "It's howdy doody time" perhaps I shouldn't be surprised.

Hi stinkfinger

Sorry to hear you got a cracked iMac

To put it in context, I've unpacked hundreds of iMac's and never had a problem - they have all ben perfect out of the box in fact one of my favourite gripes is how over packaged the are!!! (it takes ages to unpack a lab full )

If you want to go back to PC thats cool if it suits you, but please, get one from a proper manufacturer not PC world .

Good luck

Are you (non-aggressively) nuts?! The iMac any day! With or without OSX it's still a gorgeous bit of kit

I think maybe the problem lies with a users expectation of buying a mac, especially when switching from a different platform. It seems easy to swallow all the marketing etc so naturally expectations are possibly a little over the top and as Apple charge top dollar users seem to be looking for a perfect experience, something that is highly unlikely in any system

I ran out of patience for the stinky fingered one ages ago - been bitching since he ordered a Mac, then it was ages to be delivered, then it didn't look good next to his existing screen(?!), then he sent it back, blah blah blah

(will to live draining from my body)

~Paul, I know they can fix the screens at the Apple Store in seconds few, they should be good at it by now there are so many of them being delivered with cracked screens. But a. i dont live anywhere near an Apple Store, and b. most folks are reporting a small crack in the lower left corner, mine looks like someone has been at it with an ice pick.

And for the ar$e who said it is happening in transit, it clearly is not because the box is absolutely fine...how did an ice pick shaped object smash my screen to smitherines in transit without compromising the box? Ey, clever dcik?

ps. it is a loss pal
