Keyboard amps

Hi - I've got an old Carlsbro 45W keyboard amp and, as posted elsewhere, it's staring to
feel its age and can be a bit unreliable.
If I'm looking for a replacement
model - around 50W, basic functions - ie it's an amp and maybe has an EQ, good for piano
and hammond in pub/village hall gigs etc - what are my choices, and how much would I
expect to have to pay?
I've only seen the Roland range in Dawsons, and
wondering what else there is that I should try and get a listen to.
Cheers,
Matt

I have gone for a different option - powered PA speaker. The previous band I played in
insisted that I went through the PA so I never bothered with an amp - got myself a
sweeeeet little Mackie personal monitor which was nice. But changing bands meant going
back to amplifying myself. So I got one of the Studiospares 12" powered PA cabs. Sounds
fine to me plus it has lots of lovely power (250w) so I can turn it up if needed.

I went for the 300w Behringer option as it was cheap and loud, had 4 inputs and EQ. The
sound is fine for live monitoring and rehearsals - all gigs I do go through a PA so i've
not had the chance to use it as a main sound source - I reckon it would be fine for
gigging purposes. It easily keeps up volume wise with 2 loud drummers. I've not had any
issues with reliability as yet. You can pick them up for £250 if you shop around.

Thanks for that - I was considering the 60W
version for £160 as a like for like replacement - with the effects (which let's face it,
you won't really get to hear the quality or otherwise at a gig/ie not studio).
Again - Behringer provide soemthing that does enough for the entry level at an
acceptable price....
PS - 2 drummers? Jeesh, how do you cope with the pair
of them??!

It's not so bad, they share a brain cell.

If you decide to go with the
Behringer amps I would say the 180 watt one is the minimum to go for. I bought the 90 watt
one (to use with a Roland Juno D) It struggles to keep up with the rest of the band. I am
running it at almost flat out all the time. Someone a lot more clever than like wot I
am could explain better, but I suspect that Behringers Watts rms are a lot different to
other manufacturers full fat Watts rms.

Useful to know, and the kind of nugget
I was hoping to elicit. I guess that would figure for behringer...
Although I
have toyed with the idea of finding some kind of Leslie...

Er not as such, more of an add on extra.
Although I have never used a Leslie. I have had the "joy" of helping a friend move
one. Oh how we laughed....

Hey, I'm a pianist... when you're lugging an
RD1000 or CP70 around, I suspect a leslie might be some light relief

Hello,
I play the Yamaha P-250 stage piano. Long time ago, I bought two FBT
EX2.5A powered speakers (150W each) that are quite neutral, so they sound great for lots
of things, including playing CDs. They were cheap at that time... They are not in
production anymore, and I have no idea how the new models are.
Lots of times, I
have used a good bass amplifier (with a built-in equaliser) with very good results
too...
Cheers -j
